Ya know, those things for the water.
Then how come there are so many in the desert that is Australia? I got one on my JK, mostly to make people stare but feeding the engine clean fresh air from above is a good idea. Not a huge fan of the low ones, like on the everglades trim.

Hopefully the after market will offer a solution soon, ain't seen one as of yet.

I thought there was a thread here that had some renderings of someone working on one. I could be wrong, I’m old and I sleep a lot so I could have dreamt it.

Do you know that there is something fragile about the Ford alternator?

I’ve dunked more than my share in Jeeps and Suzukis over the years and haven’t had one fry yet.

Swamped the motor in my Suzuki once so bad I hydro-locked the engine. Pulled the plugs. Blew the water out. And drove along my merry way with no other ill-effects.

Man I wish I could see your face when you find out about the alternator.

Umm, if you could. Do one of those reaction vids. Have someone video you while you search bronco alternator on here.

Bummer. Every vehicle has it’s weak links, I guess.

Hmmm…maybe time to develop a GM 10SI alternator bracket kit for the Bronco. Those things are bullet proof.

I've been excited since day one to do the crossing at bab's creek with the new bronco. I've crossed it low, and I've seen people struggle to float brand new Tacoma and silverados across. People from a camp at the mouth of the crossing love to tease people that chicken out and encourage others that go for it. Average height in spring is 3.5' and the water moves fast enough to start spinning trucks halfway across.

After 2 years of reading about what's happened to others, especially regarding warranties and whatnot, im not so confident. To go around to get to the best fishing spots is a 30 mile detour down country backroads.

I don't see the point of a snorkel when the whole system can get screwed up before the water touches the fog lights, let alone the hood

They do seem to be fragile, even when fording clean water. I haven't seen an autopsy so I'm not sure what's dying exactly but moving it higher seems like a good start. I've done plenty of stupid things in mud in older Fords and had no issue but they were always mounted up high so I'm not sure whether this is something about the alternator design or purely that it's mounted so low. I plan to look into some options whenever I get my hands on another B6G because this is fairly embarrassing. BMW has some sealed units with liquid cooling that might work.

Hey guys!

I just wanted to chime in here since we have a snorkel kit in the works for both engine options. We have a thread started for it if you want to check it out here:

Borne Off-Road Snorkel R&D

This is a GREAT question. Yes snorkels are typically used for increasing fording depth (in addition to other proper prep, specifically sealing or relocating your alternator) but they’re also ideal for reducing the amount of dirt or debris your intake sucks in. By moving the induction point higher, you’re getting it out of the direct path of dirty air, especially when you’re in a convoy situation. In addition our snorkel design also has a removable head with a standard opening that allows for rotation, or the use of a prefilter or cyclone separator.

We’re getting pretty close to wrapping up our development, which I’ll keep updated in our thread linked above.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any other questions you might have!

So do we instruct the dust and dirt to fly lower than the snorkel height?
I call bs on a snorkel used for cleaner air. As if dust and dirt flies only at hood height.
Snorkels are for water.

Does the Everglades get a different alternator? Curious why it has a snorkel from Ford but everyone is worried about the alternator. Must be another forum hot topic.
