Having too much fun in the snow and broke front right axel in half. Not even sure how that was possible, but probably doesn't help it was negative 2 that day.
Huge shout out to Pat Armstrong Ford to fit me in and get parts ordered asap. Should be back on the road in 1-2 weeks hopefully.
Be careful out there!

Get ready for the fanboys to tell you it was your fault. You’ve been playing too rough with your new toy in the snow.

Can you describe exactly what you were doing when it broke? Do you have a lift kit that changed the axle angle? Do you feel that the extreme temperatures contributed to some type of component fatigue?

Was the front end locked? Just curious haven’t seen a axle go yet on stock set up. Good work on testing it to the limit.

Sub zero temps do weaken metal. In the trucking business we break more suspenion parts during sub zero operation.

Where were you out having fun at? There was only about an inch of snow anywhere near Seattle so that could have been an issue, too much grip for yer slip.

PS: If you come up with a real solution on this or guidance to help others, please change the title to spell axle correctly which will help with search functions.

This happened to me yesterday. 2022 bronco badlands Sasquatch. Factory suspension wheels and tires. Only cosmetic add ons. Pulling into gravel driveway with snow on the ground. 4H Rear locker on. Not turning. Straight up small incline and I mean really small. Driveway raises about 6 feet over 300’ length. Got “stuck” and bronco said 4x4 temporarily unavailable. Backed out. Put in 2H. Limped to ford dealership 5 miles away. Grinding clunking the whole way from front passenger side. Now waiting. First snow it was driven in. Very unsettling that my new 4x4 failed in first snow. Dealership said it could be Months for parts but they were not sure yet until they have a tech who can tear it apart and couldn’t even give me a guess on when they would get to it. So I guess I am back in my reliable 2002 Silverado 4x4 for the winter. I am sure glad I didn’t get around to selling it.

Sorry to hear about that. Curious if your CV axle was defective. If it is a CV they should be able to fix it quickly.

Snapped CV joint. It's fair to call it a broken axle, but I would save that claim unless the shaft was broken.

Do you have a sense of when it snapped? i.e. were you high-centered on the snow with full suspension droop? Or were you dropping down off of something going into suspension compression?

So, I finally got the diagnosis on my unit. Front differential being completely replaced. Dealership could not tell me what happened other than the front differential tore itself up and needs replaced. I am now waiting on parts. My bronco is 6 months old with about 7000 miles and completely stock for suspension, tires and powertrain. I had done my first offroad trip with some easy to moderate trails in this rig last august. That was the only time I had used 4wd prior to this first snow I drove it in and the front differential tore itself apart. Really hoping it was just a defect vs design issue.
