So, full disclosure here. I used to run the sheet out of my 4x4's when I was younger. Got tired of cleaning and fixing stuff so now I drive bass ad road queens lol. So this may not be a completely fair review becuase I am not out running Baja or rock climbing. But here goes anyway. I am on my second Bronco, and I will say I have LOVED the two I have and had. 1st was a base soft top I lifted 4.5" on 35's and it looked great, just didn't like the cabin noise. So when Big Bend hard top showed up my sales guy called me and I purchased it. It's the one in my profile pic, and with the same lift and running boards I did on my soft top, plus leather seats, I am really happy with this one. I have had a Wildtrack on order for over a year now and was able to convert that into a Raptor order, and last week got good and bad news. Good news is it's scheduled for production first week of January, bad news is the dealership who had not done over MSRP, now is.. So it will cost me 10K over the 82 sticker. Which shouldn't be too bad as long as I get 10-15 over msrp on the Big Bend I have now.
So like most of us I assume, I had not laid eyes on one until today. Boerne Dodge has a one just like I ordered with a few minor differences that I found today. I went to see it, honestly not thinking I would get to drive it, which to my shock they offered me an extended test drive to take it 30 miles home and return it tomorrow. Very surprised at that, BUT, they have it at 120K and have had it for two weeks, so sounds as if they are getting a bit desperate. The main difference from my order is the carbon package on it that I did not order. I was going back and forth over it but couldn't justify the 1800.00 premium for it, and after seeing it in person I am now glad I didn't do it. It honestly looks like plastic, NOT the BANG you would expect for 1800.00
Doing the walk around, the outside is definitely beefier and tougher to look at. This one, like the one I ordered is black on black, and at first order I had Cactus Grey (the color of ours now), but wasn't a fan of the overly huge fender flares, so I figured black on black wouldn't make them stick out as much, and I think I was right on that.. The black on black looks really tough. Not a fan of the aluminum skid plate in the front, but that would be an easy paint if it bugs me too much. So I was happy with the outside for sure.
Moving to the inside... This one had the marine vinyl seats, which means no power seats. I know, it's a Bronco... Why do you need power... Well for me this is simple. At 92k, or 120K, I WANT EVERYTHING.lol. I am 6'2" and my wife is 5'8", so switching back forth, which we do daily, is a pain in the ass. With these seats there was also no Code Orange accents on the seats, so the Code Orange accents that are there were not as.... THE POP as I expected. My order does have the upgraded seats, so hopefully it will satisfy more. I will say the seats were VERY comfortable. Aside from that, and few more buttons on the wheel, and a instrument cluster I did not have time to mess with, it was not much different than my current (My current one has the small screen, but my F250 Plat has the large one so it was really no WOW factor in the difference) But just sitting in the parking lot with it running, I didn't get much of any difference in feel from mine now.
Driving. Again, I was a bit surprised at them allowing me to drive it, but I am glad I did. Mine now has the 2.3, as did my base, and on 35's it's no slouch. I was expecting this one to be VERY noticeably different in power. And while I could notice a difference, it was not show stopping. Again, I am not expecting to run it in the 1/4 mile, but I was expecting to feel the HP and Torque difference to be more. And to be fair, it was a trip a few miles up and down the highway. The sound was pretty disappointing. Had a Raptor F150 a while back and the wife hated it because it was so loud. Yes I understand V8 vs V6 sound, but this wasn't even as deep as the F150 normal eco. Also, the 4 different sound modes are kinda a joke. At idle and small rev, I could tell ZERO difference. Hitting it to get on the highway there is a difference, but not much. Again, I got ZERO into the offroad capabilities, which I know this is what it's made for, but lets be honest. 90% of these will be daily drivers, and road queens.
SO, I know this was long, but here is my overall take. At MSRP, I would have ZERO problem spending the 10-15K over a wildtrack, just to have the bad boy. No way in HELL I would spend 90-120K on it UNLESS I knew for damn sure the value would stay up there, but I am not thinking this will be the case. I think they will stay around the MSRP even a few years old, but I am not sure once the lag in production catches up will they bring anything over MSRP. Obviously none of us know this, but it's where my gut stands.
So my plan... In the last month I saw them at 150K, and I saw one as low as 105 the other day. I am not sure if this is because the economy is junk, or people like me are seeing them and deciding to pass. But when mine comes in, if they are still asking 10K over, AND they are still in the 110-120 range on the market, I will purchase, and likely sell or trade to get some of my money back from my current Bronco. If they are not still at 105-110 at least, I will definitely NOT pay over MSRP, and honestly likely just keep mine.
For anyone just getting into this. UNLESS you are a BIG offroader and plan on being in the desert or rocks I would order a base, put your own lift (Which looks better than the sasquache package and MUCH cheaper), Upgrade the areas you want, spend 5500.00 on a 4.5" lift, 5 wheels and tires, running board, and just enjoy it!!
Sorry so long
Thanks for hanging in there !
