I'm not sure if there is a thread on this already or not, but I thought I should share... I am currently out of town, and my wife just texted me the attached... our Bronco safe. But a neighbor in a relatively safe neighborhood in metro Detroit, Birmingham, had their Bronco stolen from right under their nose. It was a so called man-in-the-middle attack... Take care fellow Bronco owners and beware of where you keep your key fobs.

I have several cousins in Chicago, and it is an extremely common problem there.

Gotten so bad in a few places that many people have opted to take the battery out of their key fobs and gone back to using physical keys (or their keyless entry pad) to prevent this sorta thing.

A real neighbor on a real street... good enough for me to heed warning.

Is having a lower trim where you have to tap the button to unlock any safer against this attack?

I keep my FOB's for both vehicles in a faraday bag when I'm at home. People can easily copy the signal on your FOB, especially if you hang your keys by the front door.

I might be not well informed here but what are the current methods being used without a fob?

In light of this I just ordered an RFID blocking sleeve from Amazon.

It's definitely NextDoor. I can tell by the neighborhood names listed next to the UserIDs. (Google 'NextDoor has a Karen problem'.)

I especially liked the part where the police showed up and told the owner about a sophisticated ring of car thieves with advanced technology.

I bet cold hard cash they show up took a report, and promise to do their best. Spoken as someone who had $30k dollars worth of industrial equipment stolen they did not even finger print the point of entry, and said they'd get back to us.

Never heard anything from them again.

I wonder if a simple Faraday Bag would do the trick, it would probably cause the Bronco to not see the key when driving so it might not work.
