I have a question for you - can you shed any light as to why a build week group say like 4/18 gets held up but another build group, say 5/2 are getting shipped and the first one was delivered today?
So many possible scenarios... Here's one that we had this past week:
Run out of (insert part here) and you might build 300 trucks without this part. Once part arrives, you keep building trucks while the ones waiting for the same part are now in a parking lot near the plant. You will then have a repair campaign. It may take 6 weeks or more to get those 300 trucks you built without a wiper motor to get the repair completed prior to shipping... While the line kept running and those units get shipped much quicker. Harder the part is to install, longer the repair campaign takes to complete.

So we could be the unlucky ugly ducks on the mound? Gotta love that, especially after being bumped already!

It seems my unit is one of THOUSANDS (his words) that is part of TWO corporate stop ships. So if your unit says 'in production', you might be in there with me...completely sucks.
His words exactly:
It is a finished vehicle held on two Corporate Stop Ships, each with thousands of units in them.

they got lucky and got a week where there were no build issues. Our week along with many others are stuck in limbo until part/repairs are done which we can not speculate how long this will take. There is a good possibility many of these 'thousands' being held will not be shipped until July (repair campaigns get more attention during July shutdown) is my best guess. I am trying to determine what the details are of these '2 corporate stop ships' are which could help me determine how long these repairs may take. They will fix a certain number daily...if you get yours fixed earlier, you will receive it quicker...but if you are one of the later ones fixed (which I am sure mine will be after bothering them at the plant), I'd guess a shipment early July to early August. If my Bronco sits in a lot/field for weeks to months, I will sell for profit and order another in hopes they get production of the Bronco more consistent to other vehicles in years past (prior to covid).

Yep, I get it, but if that’s the case it’s ridiculous. I’m going to be real upset if it comes in and there’s obvious signs of weathering and sitting there for so long. Not to mention that it would be a sitting vehicle with an unbroken-in engine, started and turned off a time or two (who knows how much?) probably without even enough time to heat the oil to decent operating temp, with the body and frame and tires presumably in the weather in Michigan, and maybe uncovered at that. I’ve heard of Broncos being delivered with 60+ miles already and I’m not buying that all of that is for QC.

All in all, it is what it is and we’re all along for the ride. I’m just hoping they’re all covered with full protection wherever they are and given enough time to warm up before scooting to wherever they’re called to. Be real diligent with those delivery inspections my friends, Michigan field mice might be an invasive species!

completely agree...we had thousands of Super Duties sitting in parking lots and fields all over Kentucky and Indiana for months. When a truck sits in a field for that long, oxidation is a real concern.
As for mileage, I always request my personal vehicles get the full inspection treatment at the plant which could result in @50-75 miles being on the vehicle. Some of the Super Duties we parked were driven nearly 100 miles to park them...and then another 100 back to the plant to fix and/or ship. It is not a good time for purchasing new vehicles.

How do you do that? I’d probably prefer that too it if it’s strictly for QC - I’ll be driving nearly 100 miles at a minimum my Bronco’s first day even - but extraneous mileage due to plant errors is bothersome to say the least..

As a Ford employee, I had that ability at my plant, but it did not help one bit in trying to get my Bronco treated the same way at MAP. I was a tad perturbed no one could/would assist me.

Thanks so much for the insight. I'd rather know what is going on and the process than to be kept in the dark for weeks perhaps months.

this was exactly how I pictured what’s been going on, so it’s good to get your validation. But ugh I sure hope it’s not July or later — we’ve been with one car for my 5-kid family for too long now.

isn't the idea of scheduling to ensure that the parts needed to build your vehicle are available? i can see breakage maybe impacting a handful, but thousands? And why wouldn't they provide this information to the consumer? hiding it and pissing off customers can't be better then admitting the situation especially with all of the issues covid has caused

Don’t you think all of this is “rolling” in the sense that they can’t stockpile everything for, say, 3,000 units all at once. More likely, they have enough to get the first 1,000 built, enough components to get the next 1,000 90% built, and enough to get the next 1,000 80% built — with the expectation that the rest of the components will be rolling in along the way.
That’s my assumption. And I just happen to be in the 80% or 90% built group apparently 😑

Edit:

I’ll add that an approach like I mentioned would, in general, get everyone built more quickly *on average* … but not in all individual cases
