I've never owned a car that had a visible spare tire. Of course, new tires have markings on them from the factory. But I absolutely hate that ugly stripe in the middle of the tire. Realizing that I am being irrational here; did any of you do anything about it or did you just leave it be until the next rotation?

If you don't want to wait until you rotate tire, just swapping with one of your other tire for a day or two would likely be enough to wear past the marks. Or just go ahead and swap it with one of the other 4 if you only have a few hundred miles on your Bronco.

It’s just a thin bead of craft paint used to identify they tread compound and profile in the factory. It’s just sitting on the surface so it doesn’t take much to wear it off. If it really bugs you just switch it out for one of the other tires (not enough wear to justify a full rotation) and it will be gone after a quick spin around the block.

I thought it was to identify the preferred outside of the tire

Nope. Radial tires don’t have a “preferred” outside of the tire, but it is a practice to mount the factory DOT markings facing out.

Factories mark the tread to easily identify the tire SKU during the production process. Once the tire is assembled attaching a tag isn’t possible so they mark the tread. Barcodes are used, but they are unique to each tire for traceability purposes and not practical to easily identify a tire’s code visually.

I’ve seen three different methods: a dot matrix printer, a roller wheel or color coding stripes. The factory that produced OPs tires apparently utilize a color coding system.

You should be getting a tire cover. Tires break down with sunlight exposure and when on the vehicle they are shaded much of the time. Hanging out the back will cause it to break down faster if you don't cover it.

Yeah that is total OCD... Considering that photo looks to have been taken from below the vehicle, unless you're really short you'd never see it.
