Am I the only guy being driven nuts by the parking brake function? I just don't understand what they were thinking.

They put it in the same spot you'd find a normal foot brake release (even though there's no foot pedal to set it), but the worst part is that the function is backwards! You normally pull a brake release to release the brake. On the Bronco you pull it to set the brake and push it to release it. It's so counterintuitive to my old brain that I continually screw it up! I'm not sure I'll ever get it right.

Okay, rant off. Thanks for listening. :D
It definitely messed with my head for the first couple of weeks, but then once I stopped touching the lever to release and just started tapping the gas pedal everything seemed to click in my brain.

The one thing I that has crossed my mind is the functionality of the electronic parking brake means there isn't really an emergency brake function; at least not how it used to be used for brake failures. Gear down until you hit 1st and then hit the eParking brake and slide to a stop I guess?

I liken the Bronco parking brake to thise old mini/micro USB chargers. Only 2 ways to plug them in and you always got it wrong in the first attempt.

My biggest issue is that I go to release the brake right after hitting the start button but before the Bronco has fully "booted up" and end up having to release it twice.
I never realized it disengages itself until reading this thread. I kinda don't like that.

I wonder if there is a forscan thing for that...

There is a ton of reservation holders who don't even have a build date yet. Which is driving people nuts. And this dude is griping about a parking brake smh 🙄
Why the heck would he be griping about build dates when he has a Bronco?

You want to shake your head, you think griping about someone else is 'more worthy'?

Just seems trivial in the grand scheme of things. But just hey it's 2022 where anything goes right.

There is a whole area here to complain. Go there.

Go to a Bronco rodeo and they will teach you how and when to use it.

I'm one of those and it's ok to complain about the parking brake.

OP - it would have been easier if they just put it somewhere else. I've driven a couple of Broncos and I have the same issue with it. They put it where older vehicles had the parking brake release and made the action the opposite. Amazing the engineers did it this way. Just put it somewhere else and it is easier to deal with the pull to set / push to release. My wife's car has it in the console with similar action and it is a non-issue.

While muscle memory is a fair complaint, it works both ways.

I haven't had a pedal parking brake in decades. I hate them. My Toyota has a pullout T-handle which activates the brake, and would hate to have them reverse that function and mess with MY muscle memory. Lol

You all are using the parking brake?
In first alone there's not enough compression to prevent it from rolling on a decent hill in our parking lot.

Haven't tried C, but always just put the brake on.

Lol
Same reason why they changed power window switches years ago... Safety...
Can you imagine going down the highway and accidently PUSH the E-brake switch in to activate it?
good point

Kinda. When my wife and I went they told us to make sure we engage the parking brake every time we stopped (meaning on the trails for additional safety). So now that's what my wife does in her automatic. Every time she parks, p-brake comes on. Drives me nuts when I jump in and try to drive somewhere. Throw it in drive or reverse and get nothing, oh yeah, parking brake is on.

I think this is the first working parking brake I've ever had. Used to just putting it in first and jamming the tire into a curb.
