My service advisor told me to quickly call my insurance agent. I called him, he said that "rodent" damage wasn't covered.
just draw mickeymouse graffitti on the harness and claim vandalisation

Damn I hate this and my Ford Ranger has the same problem and even worst. I took it to my servicing dealer and the Service Manager was like holly crap that rat is living in your car. And he's like watch out that thing may come out while your driving. He claims what happens is a female rat will get in the vehicle and leave its piss and then the Male Rat will live in the vehicle waiting for the Female. He also did me a huge favor and said the Rat is actually living in your house. And wow I called the exterminator guy and he's like yep you have a ton of Rats living in your attic above the garage. The first thing you have to do is get rid of the Rats living in your house. And yeh yeh you will say not they aint yes they are. Until you remove them in your home it will happen all over again.

I never thought I would be posting about this. We live in the city, well a suburb of Houston. Built our house 27 years ago and have NEVER had rats in our vehicles. We keep the new 2021 Bronco parked inside the garage since we brought it home in October. Last week my "washer fluid low" warning came on. I blamed my dealer since they did the first oil change a couple days ago. I took it back. My service advisor said, "I need to show you something". Pictures attached. I've heard of this happening to German cars because of the mineral content of the wire coatings, but never had this happen here with an American car. I have no idea what surprises await me not knowing what the rat got into and chewed that I can't see.

Literally the only reason I'm happy we have these massive nope ropes around...

The Texas Rat Snake, 5 feet of non-venomous fury... yes... that is my shop he's hanging out on
LOL...Nope ropes! We have our fair share of them here as well. They really like eggs too!

Sounds silly buy "Bounce" brand dryer sheets do wonders. At least with mice. Not sure on rats.

We had issues at our cottage in the house and pole barn where I kept my Mustang and my dad kept his Z. Heard this trick and and thought it was b.s. but worth the cheap try. Stuffed the dryer sheets all around the walls in the crawl space; around the perimeter of the pole barn and in the cars when stored. Never had another issue and kept the the car smelling great too. I swear by them now.

Never been so happy to have a neighborhood full of stray cats -- ruthless little hunters they are. Sorry for the headaches OP, hope your wire loom isn't too mangled 🥲

Hood open and light on and put a couple traps under vehicle. That's what a buddy of mine did. And was rodent free in a week.

auto wiring is typically coated with a soy-based covering. It actually IS rat food.
Yeah, finding that out now. I'm 62 years old and never had this happen with any vehicle before.

Check your vehicle for spilled food inside even a crum and they will stay looking for more. Had 2 resident mice living in the wife's new car. Stupid kids spilling and dropping food. Put 2 traps and cheese in the floor boards and got them and them thoroughly vacuumed out car next day.

Yes most if all automotive has soy based oil in it keeps the coating pliable for years. And is UV resistant. But the drawbacks are it attracts varmets. My uncle in Arizona had pack rats eat his car literally from the inside out. Wiring, seats, it was a mess.

Thanks, food and drinks are forbidden in my cars. We had a cold snap and the rat was prolly looking for a warm place to crash . . . and eat.
