I am originally from South Bend, IN and they are a great resource nationally for clutch products and upgrades. I've gone to them for years when doing swaps and projects for affordable solutions. All my turbo Fords have SBC parts in them.

Mine does it also, cold starts hear around 30-50 degrees, just hear it in neutral. Its not the throwout bearing, as you can pressure the clutch lightly and it won't get quiet. It sounds like transmission noise while the gears/shafts are spinning in neutral. full clutch disengagement will stop it. it may be as simple as a trans fluid change to quiet it.

I've been having the exact same issue (big bend, 7-spd, 11,000 mi), sounds exactly like UTultimates video, only happens when cold in neutral sitting still, 1st gear, and 2nd gear

Also thought it was the throw-out bearing or dual mass flywheel as have had both go out in my truck (I don't fully understand it, but on the dual mass flywheel there are springs that cushion b/w the flywheels that get loose and rattle in their slots at low speed) - also not sure if this thing has a dual mass flywheel.

Took it to the dealer, we worked it up through Ford support, got the engineers on a conference call with the dealership, they said "yeah we think we've heard that noise before". We went and tracked down another manual that was being delivered, 10 miles on it, fired it up in the cold (35 degrees) and it made the same gurgling/garbling noise.

They wrote up my paper work, said nothing was wrong and gave it back to me. Absolutely love the thing, but going to sell it and wait for Ford to quite the transmission down. I'd never buy a used car that sounded like that.

So Ford's answer was "that sound is normal"?
I will service mine next week. I hope I do get that BS answer. Ill keep you guys posted.
Car shifts well but that grinding noise is not pleasant.

Just heard from my Ford dealer and I assume my call to Ford prompted it. Its going in next week 2/3 and they will be doing a number of checks. The service advisor went over the checks they will be doing which may include pulling the transmission if they see metal in the oil. I have a feeling there is something wrong with a batch of these units and may need to replaced/repaired. There are too many of us here that are hearing/experiencing it. Funny thing she also said is that its not an issue that Ford has a TSB on. I think everyone that is experiencing this should reach out to Ford as I did so it becomes a known issue. I will keep everyone in the loop once I hear from my dealer. Probably wont be for a few days after i drop it off next week. They already told me they are short of technicians due to Covid..ugh!

I went and had a test drive of mine, didn’t notice the sound but I might have been too excited.

It does not have a piston pushing on a lever pushing on a bearing.

It has a bearing with a hydraulic cylinder built into it that pushes directly on the pressure plate.

It’s more efficient transfer of energy, but if it leaks you pull the transmission.

Can confirm I am experiencing the same noise. Started occurring as soon as the temperatures began to drop and now persists during cold-starts before the vehicle is warmed up. Currently have about 2,500 miles. I have only noticed the noise when the vehicle is in neutral. Pushing the clutch in slightly does not stop the noise. Fully disengaging the clutch stops the noise.

I chalk it up to manual trans connected to 4wd which is going to be pretty noisy.
but I follow this and add to the issue if it’s a problem.

Here is mine. 2.3 7 speed. Check your crawler gears out, it seems like mine isn't working properly. The torque on it feels less than in 4L. I am wondering if this noise has something to do with it.

Does the 7 speed have a dual mass flywheel? They'll make noise as well

Same with mine.

Mine as well since brand new. My son drove me the 5 hrs to pick up the Bronco and the next morning at the motel I cranked it(he was outside by the driver's door) and he looked puzzled at me. I got out and I swear (if it were 30 yrs old) it would be the throw-out bearing. In neutral, cold rattling away. 1800 miles in so far (but no one would buy this making that sound should I sell)so I guess it must get it addressed when i go to the dealership.
