Checking to see if anyone else is having this issue. I am trying to order a BL with a hardtop and roof rails. Once I select the 2.7 motor it removes the rails from my build. The dealer is telling me I can’t order a BL with the Mid package and roof rails. It actually seems that the engine choice is the issue. I can add the Mid package and the roof rails remain. As soon as I enter the upgraded motor it requires removing the rails. Either way this is ridiculous. I can build a BD with a 2.7 and roof rails. Seems like a glitch in the system.

Your dealer is correct. You cannot order the roof rails and the 2.7L engine on the Badlands trim. Has to do with weight restrictions—Badlands is the heaviest trim Ford sells.

You'll have to wait until they offer roof rails as a standalone accessory—which rumor is will happen Q1 or Q2 this year.

Who knows anymore...next week if you select 2.7 you won’t be able to get keypad entry probably.

That makes no sense. The roof rails can’t weight very much and I’d have to think a BD with SAS is going to be very close in weight, yet I can order the rails if I go that route.

When you stay standalone do you mean from Ford aftermarket? The rails are a standalone accessory when selecting options on a new build. I would have to think Ford will charge a lot more after the fact then when you order your Bronco with them installed.

Ford's weight calculation is somewhat a mystery, but it seems to also include what you can carry ON the roof rail, and the maximum package options. I know per SAE J2807 standards they have to account for a bunch of different factors that we from the outside think should not matter. The weight limits are so tight on the Bronco that the First Edition trim they sold last year could not be equipped with the tow package, the math just didn't work out.

The Badlands trim includes the sway-bar disconnect system and has the ability to be optioned with leather seats and the Lux package. The Black Diamond can only be optioned with with Mid package. The Wildtrak trim has a similar issue, you can include the roof rails until you add the full-vehicle bash plates. Then it gets pushed too far and the roof rails get removed.

And yes, chances are the roof rail will most likely cost around $1,000 (give or take a few hundred) when it is released as an accessory.

What's weird is that I've got a 2DR, BL, 2.7, MIC with roof rails.

I was told by my dealer (and another dealer I called as I didn't believe my dealer) when I ordered my 2 door base three days ago that I couldn't add the roof rails without upgrading to higher trim package. The dealer i called said that you couldn't add roof rails to any package currently due to shortage/commodity issues, and that this is a recent change by Ford. However online I can still add the rails to my build no problem myself, but on the dealers end they cannot be added. I was told I can buy them later from Ford, but they are going to be much more expensive than just a few hundred bucks.
