We meet up at 8:30 from our HQ at the River Canyon Lodge and convoyed to Gemini bridges Rd. and aired down shortly down the road. The cliffside road up on Gemini Bridges Rd can be a little rocky so airing down before the trail head helps smooth it out.
We stopped at the back side of the Gooney Bird & grabbed a few photos then continued to the trail head.
Just after the start we encountered 3 Jeeps on 40âs (one on 39âs) hitting it hard getting up the first large ledge.
At the first big ledge, what is now known to us as @NORCALGXP âs Ice Ledge, @NORCALGXP hit the center big ledge & made it up after 3 attempts at the cost of dumping all his ice in the ice chest.
Looks like @NORCALGXP âs Ice Ledge likes his beer extra cold judging by the ice to beer ratio 1 beer to 50 lbs. of ice.
The previous jeeps clogged trail because they were after every big obstacle. We waited again for them on 40s while enjoying the show, as it looked like it was going to get exciting more than once.
Once we were on out way I unfortunately in typical fashion went right when I should have gone left at the Canyon before the waterfall, so the reverse gear got another workout climbing back up the incline
. Hey itâs been 10+ years since I last ran this and the memory can be fuzzy at times.
We made it to the waterfall with numerous motorcyclist around. Approaching the waterfall you run a little off camber and the path is anything but smooth as it undulates along the hillside wall and a ledge drop off on the drivers side you donât want to muck with. We stopped along the path to double check the base was not full of rocks before going down. I explained that is sort of like a controlled crash. Your brakes are not going to hold you because you will just slide off. Then you want to be off the brakes just before the bottom so you roll through it. This saves the impact to the front end. Going down the waterfall was great all around. Itâs such a fun obstacle.
We made our way through more ledges and big holes to maneuver numerous tippy situations resulting in more than a few 3 wheel incidents.
We stopped at the lookout for lunch and beautiful view . The weather was perfect. There was little to no wind suppressing being itâs on the cliffâs edge. After about an hour lunch taking in the views, we made our way back the way we came
Wed arrived back at the waterfall for which you have to climb back up, unless you made the turn off for Golden Spike, then you options to avoid climbing back up are Rusty Nail (not advised in a new bronco) or the completion of the Trifecta via Golden Spike onto Poison Spider.
Back at the waterfall, we found @El Diablo wasnât hooking up to make the climb. It was discovered that he was at 20 lbs. of air. Way too high. Try 15 or less next time . He let a little air out and a little more tire spin and he was up. You donât have to roast the tires off @Bmadda
There was a rescue buggy that received a call for a rolled sxs on Gold bar Rim but told him we came from the lookout and didnât see anyone later the 3 big jeeps came through after a hard day on Rusty Nail I checked with them but they didnât see anything either.
We continued back and made out way over to Little Canyon. This is a short trail that intersects Gold Bar Rim. Little canyon v-notch big climb this was a good challenge for all unfortunately, there was an illegal bypass some made previously and what looked to be a winch cable stuck in the rocks . This stuff is why trails get closed down people!!! Stay on the trail!
A lot fun challenges along the way. Unfortunately, I missed yet another turn to meet up with Bull Canyon so a little back tracking was needed
.
Bull Canyon set us back on Gemini Bridges Rd and we stopped for a few more Gooney Bird photos. While doing so, some had noticed that there we people on the Gooney Bird repelling & can be seen in the last picture
It was a great day with an Awesome group on one of my favorite trails. I am glad that only a spur was closed off.
