This section of my windshield just above and to the left of my rear view mirror doesn’t seem to have any surface material that could be inhibited by mounting a dashcam via the typical 3M adhesive square, but I am curious as to what this is, and if there is a specific reason I should avoid placing my dashcam’s adhesive directly over it. Anyone know what this black patterned area is for?

Those are called "Frits".

It's an enamel baked onto the glass, and is used to regulate the temperature properly around the edge of the windshield to prevent distortion, and gives something for the urethane to adhere to. In the case of the Bronco... there is the Co-Pilot 360 safety system up there. And the frits are helping to protect the electronics in that area and ensure the optics are correct.

Can you put your dash cam there? Probably, I can't think of a reason why you couldn't do that. Just be aware that area gets hot (by design), and the adhesive may have trouble... well... adhering.

I mounted my dash camera just below your bottom arrow. It‘s not in the way and gives a great field of view.

My nextbase is mounted above the bottom arrow. I did use and adhesive promoter. Well, both broncos are mounted there

The field of view from there vs. higher up wouldn't be ideal, IMO. You lose a lot of the view you'd probably want from a dash camera being so low.

That Accessory Ready mount would be good for a GoPro for some trail footage, but I wouldn't use it for a dash camera. I did look at that before mounting mine though.

Is there even room to mount your dashcam in that area? It's pretty crowded behind the mirror, and if you have it hanging down below the mirror, it's really going to affect you view out of the windshield.

Here's where I mounted my Garmin Mini 2, and it works well. BTW, it's been exposed constantly to the AZ sun for over a year and going strong so far... 😎

So, the dashcam that I have mounts from above and to the right side of the dash cam (see the photo). If I place the mounting base on that area with the FRITS (thanks, @RagnarKon !), then it would be in the ideal place, just in front of the rear view mirror, and not blocking any additional viewable area on the windshield. If I move down or left for mounting, out of the area of the frits, the dashcam will be below or to the left of the mirror, and will block more of my view.
I did also seriously consider the accesory rail ( I just bought and mounted the Mabetts rail, so plenty of space there), but I would need to buy an additional fixture to mount the adhesive square to, and it would not have as good of a range of view as mounting at the top of the windshield, as others pointed out.

I am going to go through the app and see if there is an option to flip the video upside down - this may give me more mounting options if the adhesive can be positioned underneath the camera...

This is a tough one to sort out. Thanks for all of the insight so far!
