I've seen many of these in off road videos. Some outfitted for over landing, some just for off roading. Don't know much about them, but are they a reliable truck? I have concerns about a Bronco that has been sitting on a lot for months. Will Ford make the vehicle right? If the paint is bad, are they going have it restored?, etc. If I'm going to pay $60K for a new vehicle, I'm not willing to have it back into the dealer to fix things that Ford should have. I know there is no perfect vehicle, but in all the trucks I've purchased in my 69 years, I've never seen anything as messed up as the Bronco.

Thanks,

Dave

I would not worry that a Bronco that has sat on a lot is somehow not reliable. I just picked mine up on Friday after sitting for four months on Ice Mountain. I have yet to find a single flaw. It smells brand new. I didn't find any rodents or snakes yet. All vehicles need to go to the shop at some point, even Toyotas. Toyotas are great vehicles. I had a really nice 4Runner. I do give them high marks for reliability and resale value. But, it's a little short on tech and looks to suit me. Do they still have a four speed auto?

So, “you’ve never seen anything as messed up” as the Bronco that you haven’t even seen yet and you are sure is filled with defects because your imagination tells you so?

You should probably buy the Toyota.

I have a 21 trd pro and a 21 basesquatch. Bronco is far superior in every way except hauling and towing. I've already put about 12k into the trd pro not including the re-gearing that it's in the shop for right now, and the bronco is still the better buy. Mine sat on the mountain for about 5 months and it's been perfect. I've only added sliders and skid plates to the bronco.

One is a truck and the other is not. One fits in tighter spaces, the other does not. Get what you need.

Vehicles sit on the lot for months and months all the time. My wife's F-150 sat on the dealers lot for 9 months baking in the Arizona sun before we bought it.

I did take the opportunity to make the dealer put in a new battery before we left though.

That was harsh, but he does have a point. Reading these forums might lead you to believe that your new Bronco will have all kinds of issues right off the bat. In reality, for each of the issues you’ve read about, only a small percentage of the 10’s of thousands sold end up with one or two of those problems. In all liklihood, your Bronco will be trouble-free, and at worst, you may have some issue that can be fixed via warranty.

It’s up to you to decide whether owning and driving one of these machines is worth the chance that it’s not perfect. But think about all of the computerized electronic devices you’ve owned in the last 20 years (and all modern vehicles fall into that category), and ask yourself how many of them have been perfect and trouble-free…

The TRD-pro is my back-up vehicle in case the Bronco falls through, or I may just keep my 20 year old Subaru Forest (the "er" fell off somehow ) but I REALLY WANT the Bronco. They are different vehicles in so many ways...

I had a ‘15 Tacoma that was nice to drive. When someone else caused damage to it, I decided to trade it in, as is. Got a good deal on a ‘18 Tundra Crewmax. Bigger truck, similar gas mileage.
approaching 100k miles and it has been wonderful. Can’t wait to trade it in for a Bronco though!

edit: these are both TRD Off-Road.

It's a known fact that Ford's as a whole are not near as reliable as Toyota's as a whole. Know the people that only buy Ford's will defend them to the death, but that does not change the facts.

Wait a couple of years to see if Ford cleans up the Bronco act and you could take a second look then. If you do not need all of the latest advanced tech that is missing on the current gen Tacoma and 4Runner, either one will make you happy. The all new Tundra is going through some first year intro pains themselves but the turbo linkage issue seems to have been resolved.

If your holding out for the new 6th gen 2024 4Runner it has slipped to spring 2024 for introduction. And last, the new gen 2024 Tacoma should be introduced in late 2023, here is the latest spy videos when it was caught testing in Colorado.

More pics here:
2024 Toyota Tacoma seems to have a rear coil spring suspension

Here is the current gen 4Runner mule testing the new 6th gen 4Runner powertrain, following the new camo Tacoma's around (they will share powertrains, 4 cylinder turbo base, hybrid optional.)

What are you going to use the car/truck for? Once you decide on that, it should help your decision. Can’t go wrong with either really… I had a gen2 Tacoma and it was great for everything I used it for. Now that I got into off roading the bronco fits my needs more but I do miss having a truck bed at times for transporting things… but that’s what friends are for right??? Haha

Toyota's Tacoma/4runner are not comparable off road to Bronco SAS. Just to get the same approach angle with an aftermarket bumper you have to cut into the actual fenders or body colored panels in both vehicles. Easier just to buy a vehicle already equipped with 35s than mod one to it and keep it reliable.

But i have the same fears on reliability. There are stats out there from car resellers on how many vehicle of a certain year from a manufacturer is still being sold, and guess what, was in the top the last time i checked. Goes to show they do last a long time.
