My Raptor unexpectedly showed up out of the blue last week-Ford tracker still says it's pending shipment. I've racked up 800 miles and have been having a blast. Here's my short list of the good, bad, and ugly in no particular order:
-First test drive I immediately noticed the road noise. I could not imagine a soft top! It's barely noticeable with the radio up even slightly, and after 800 miles I don't even notice it now. About 70-75 it gets noticeable but I'm rarely going this fast for long periods of time
-I also immediately noticed the vibration in the pedals from those massive tires. Again, this was expected and after 800 miles it's either smoothed out some or I've gotten used to it. Could also be that I have it in sport mode a lot now.
-Absolutely love the wireless Android auto. Sadly- it overheats the phone so bad and absolutely kills the battery. Forget using the wireless charger with it- it gets so hot it overheats and shuts down and/or stops charging and is literally too hot to touch.
-The touch screen is absolutely gorgeous and I love that you can use it split screen for 2 apps at once. Oddly, my screen is hot as hell to the touch and I feel like this will be bad for it long-term.
-The suspension is incredible. I feel like I could hit a speedbump doing 90 and not feel a thing.
-This thing absolutely THROWS rocks. I'm getting ceramic coating this weekend and I have been babying the accelerator any time I go through any gravel. Every now and then you hear a super loud "TINK!" from rocks flying off and hitting the step rails and/or inside of those beastly fenders. So far they've stopped all from hitting the paint, but it's only a matter of time until one hits at just the right angle. Those flares may be ugly to some, but dang are they absolutely necessary!
-I made a last minute audible to Code Orange with the Blue leather. I was really on the fence about blue interior- all the pictures made it look like a terrible neon-blue. Everyone said the pictures don't do it justice- and when the dealer sent me pics upon arrival I was underwhelmed. However, in person was a completely different story. SO glad I switched both.
-Absolutely love being able to change the exhaust/steering/suspension on the fly. My last car 3 years ago was a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and it was easily my favorite feature of the vehicle. I never expected to have the same fun in something as beastly as this.
-On that note- the tech in this thing is awesome. I'm still finding apps/features I had no idea were a thing.
The really bad:
-Leaky tops. I garage my cars but left this in the rain intentionally the other night to see how it did. I had one leak dripping on the windshield pillar on the passenger side, and two larger leaks over the cross bar over the middle of the car (pics Attached). I've notified my dealer and they have submitted a claim to Ford. We'll see what happens- but it seems like the 2.5 year delay still hasn't resolved anything on the hard tops.
-On that note - I also noticed the driver side window was wet on both sides when I rolled it down the next morning after everything dried out. When I rolled it back up, there was water on both sides of the window. I didn't notice this on the other windows- but it will be something I keep an eye on for the next time it rains.
-After getting it home, I was showing it off and someone noticed a dent in the hood. Small, but very noticeable from a side view. I sent the dealer pictures (also attached) and drove 2 hours back the next day for them to take a look. They agreed this was a factory defect as there is no damage to the paint whatsoever, and it's clear it wasn't from any impact. They had their paintless dent repair guy on site and he came over to try and pop it out. After shoving a rod through the underside of the hood he says "that's really crunchy. I think this hood is made of fiberglass...". He couldn't get the dent out- and the dealer has submitted a claim with Ford to see how they want to proceed. This one is weird and I have no idea where it's going to go -if anyone has advice on what I should be asking for here let me know. I don't want them to bondo and paint the hood of my brand new car- but I also don't know how it will work if they decide to ship a new hood altogether. I also noticed the hood bra protector from Ford does NOT fit the Raptor, and I can't seem to find any aftermarket bra for the Raptor.... If any of you vendors are reading this- please help us out!
