IAG was including a set of PPF strips with their strut kits originally. I don’t know if they’re still included, but they would still sell them to you, I’m sure.

For your initial issue of lifting the top from position 1, I agree on the step stool suggestion. That would give you more leverage, and with it, more control.

Now here’s a pro tip for when you get the IAG struts (which you should): Once you’ve lifted the top from position 1, it will go back to a certain point and then the struts will keep it suspended there. At this point, open the tailgate, and using your stool, stand up and pull the top all the way down from the center. This will keep it from binding up and creating more scratches…
Thanks for the pro tip! That'll help. I've never thought of myself as short until now. I watched videos on how to put the top down and the guys do it so effortlessly! The kit should be here in about a week.
