Yes, I think you are 100% correct, thanks for commenting on that. It just goes again to my second clarification post around the 'placebo effect' and how when something is 'over specced' you feel more confident. That's what SAS is for me at the moment is more a confidence factor than an actual must-have.

FWIW, my decision after the cooling off period was:

-> Keep my Badlands order with 33's
-> IF I felt it necessary after scraping a few too many things in my actual use OR just get a hair up my butt on delivery to then upgrade to a set of Nitto trail grapplers 35 inch tires. (And likely splurge for a better-looking wheel while I'm at it at that point)

Since it's more of having a more unique rig than everyone with their sasquatches. (I'm not a big fan of the sasquatch wheel) and hopefully, I don't have to regear and/or could sell my other tires. I've seen a few people upgrading their wheel size so far and monitoring people's feedback after upgrading for comments around people feeling that have to regear.

I am kinda in the same boat as you. I would like the 35's for rockcrawling but am concerned they 1) won't ride good on the highway and 2) aren't good tires. 3) and I would like to test drive them before ordering the SAS package.
Having said that if I wait and add 35's later then I am looking at
beadlock wheels about $2700
tires about 1600 so a total of $4200..

If I go with the SAS package it cost 2k more on my build. Then I would need the beadlock rings for another $800-1000. So maybe 1k more if I do it afterwards.... vs ordering the SAS package up front...

Having said that the advantages are:
1) I get the tires and rims that I want- not what Ford offers
2) I have two sets of tires and can use the 35's off road and the 33's on the highway

So if we add 35's on a BL non SAS what do we have to do? add a small lift?

My other thought is if I get 33's I can add 35's later and the effective gear ratio might be around 4.27. Which of course is higher than the 4.7 SAS but with the automatic shouldn't be a problem AND when I stick the 33's back on for highway driving I still get decent fuel economy.
If I go the other way and get the SAS with 35's and decide I don't like them then if I change to 33's I end up with an effective gear ratio around 4.9 maybe? That would suck for fuel economy on the highway and as a daily driver.
