I honestly did not think this would work but it does! 
Found these folding L brackets from home depot and installed them to the studs in garage. The one little nuance is the load. Each bracket is rated for 50 lbs. The softop is 88lbs (found this somewhere on the internet, feels more like 100lbs) so the load divide by 3 should be ok with one issue as the middle of the softop bracket is arched! There is about 1"+ of play. I will probably find some type of rubber mount to fill in and distribute the load. Overall this thing holds. Going to add a chain to earthquake proof it in the future.
