Can someone tell me what this is for? I've spent way too much time googling it.

When you remove the hard top those are connections for the rear defroster and washer hose to connect to so they don't get damaged or leak water.

They are just holders for the hardtop wiring connector and washer fluid hoses if you take the top off.

No the prep kit would be the actual wiring and washer hose for the rear defroster , wiper, and washer. Those are just dummy plugs to connect to when the hard top is not in place.

Too bad Ford doesn't offer a comprehensive owner's manual with the vehicle and on line that includes videos and everything. Man, that would be so convenient.

It's in the Owner's Manual. That should have been the first place to look.
