Built one in highschool with my grandpa. It was fun, but didn't get used a lot. Another one of those vehicles I had once upon a time and wish never got sold.
Over 80% of them.
I don't think they've got 10% of the orders yet, and we'll be generous and pretend there won't be more major delays after they get around to fixing the few thousand "recalled" ones at dirt mountain.
They'll sell more units of the baby this way than they thought they would lose Broncos. Ticking Bronco owners off by degrading the name of their vehicle was worth it to Ford in the long run.
I suspect this is a big part of why the details on the performance version of the Bronco have been left unknown until a year or two pass. Jeep can respond to the mainstream Bronco models, then Ford can counter with a 3.5 or whatever in the Warthog.
Ford loves to be able to claim highest numerical values too much to let Jeep have it. They'll make sure their performance option is better on paper so they can make those claims in their advertising.
You conveniently ignore the reason people buy vehicles like this. It is not primarily motivated by what they logically know they will do with the thing, but by the fantasy of what could be done with it, and the perception they want to have of themself and of for others to have of them.
People...
Any idiot could do that with half the engine. No doubt there will be a bunch of morons driving big tired Broncos who aren't used to the dynamics of that kind of vehicle who crash it. It won't be the vehicles fault in either case.
Toyota design change philosophy is incremental and cautiously prudent. It is nothing to do with the model or market segment.
This philosophy has some drawbacks, but it is also one of the major driving forces behind their reputation for reliability.
This is probably one of the most important factors. Bronco is not an econocar. People are not buying a brand new lifted truck with 35" tires to get good fuel economy in their commute. The vehicle in general, and the V8 option, are aesthetic choices.
I really doubt that. The iron block V6 plus the turbos is only about 50lb lighter, and because people can't keep their foot out of it that little bugger is going to suck gas like crazy most of the time. Under regular load I'd bet the 5.0 would be getting better fuel economy.
Unless you're...
The only part the messed up was the day. If it had come out on the 9th, or earlier, it would have been a more broadly effective ploy.
I would guess the only good reason for the timing is to throw some questions in Ford's face about V8's they'd rather not talk about. Not that Jeep is in any...
You do realize the Bronco is "only" getting a D44 ... Probably the same one in the rear and something weaker in the front.
Ford would have done the same thing of they had anything worth showing during the JL reveal a couple years ago ... after the Bronco had been announced.
