I know I'm late to this thread, but it appears the wiring diagram and the equipment instillation guide disagree on the fuse sizes as follows:
Aux 1 - 25 vs 30 amp
Aux 2 - 15 amp (no disagreement)
Aux 3 - 10 amp (no disagreement)
Aux 4, 5, & 6 - 5 amp vs 10 amp
Am I misunderstanding something...
I agree completely. For example, when I visited Moab, I made my first attempt at Hell's Gate without locking my front differential, just to see if it was necessary. It was necessary! I got some criticism for not locking it for my first attempt.
But a locked differential prevents the lifted...
Thanks Dusty, I really appreciate the subtitles of your answer. I completely agree that the situation I describe is very unlikely. It's not that I would expect to personally encounter such a situation often, or even ever, but I thought maybe someone would have found such a place. And, it is...
With everything locked, you won't have the wheel off the ground spinning up to high speed -- unless you have all the wheels spinning faster than the vehicle is moving, in which case a wheel that stayed on the ground can find traction just as easily with the same potential failure.
Let me start by saying I am convinced a sway bar disconnect can be helpful. But I'm not yet convinced it is a game changer on a fully locked vehicle. Does anyone know of a video that shows an obstacle that can't be passed (or is much more difficult to pass) without the sway bar disconnected?
I...
Thanks, I really appreciate your Input. It's nice to get a relevant response including pros and cons. That picture looks like an excellent day! I'm guessing you were around 4500 feet there. Nice going.
The Bronco is bigger and heavier than I prefer. Even the Wrangler is bigger than what I consider ideal. Unfortunately I seem to be the only one in the USA that prefers smaller vehicles, so no one sells them here. If I want a highway legal 4X4 less than 20 years old, small and light doesn't seem...
There's been a number of times where I've been on the same trails/roads as them. If a trail has had significant snowmobile use (which packs the snow) it is often fairly easy to drive. Also, a few snowmobilers will run the roads that I use during the winter. That is, roads that are not...
To each there own, but based on my 40 years of snow wheeling, I'd happily trade the 1-2" of ground clearance for a smooth toboggan like bottom.
My go-to tire pressure for snow-wheeling is 5 psi and I sometimes drop to 3 psi. Also I run load range C radial tires for good sidewall flexibility so...
I have no idea about the Bronco, but a while back I was reading up on gearing options for my 2003 ML500. Apparently if you changed the diff gearing and didn't adjust the values in the computer, it would go into limp mode. Presumably the computer would look at the engine parameters & wheel speed...
One more thing I didn't already mention. Extension lines can be problematic with a snatch block. The extension either needs to be: 1) short enough that it wont reach the snatch block while winching, or 2) long enough to start with the end already through the snatch block, but not so long that it...
You are somewhat correct, but it's more complicated than that. Drum diameter is important also. For example, the Warn M8274-S has a 3.5 inch drum diameter and the Warn Zeon 10-S has a 3.15 inch drum diameter. Both of these winches have a 10,000 lb rating on the first wrap on the drum. But the...
I'm getting ahead of myself here since I haven't even decided on what Bronco I want. But it's fun to dream.
I have an old Warn 8274 winch that I really like on my current rig. It has 150 feet of line, and it probably weighs around 50-55 lbs. I don't need the 150 feet of line often, but...
I didn't know that. It sounds like a good feature. One mph is not bad, but not slow enough in my opinion. In the lowest gear and at 800 engine RPM, my Dodge Raider would have a theoretical speed of .65 mph. This is too fast for some conditions. And maintaining 800 rpm or less without stalling...
I'm not real fond of having to cut parts off the frame, which seems to be necessary for 37" tires. But I would definitely consider doing it. I haven't looked at what it takes to go over 37", but I bet it doesn't get any easier.
My current vehicle (the Dodge Raider in the pictures) has...
While I've driven my old Mercedes ML500 (with automatic transmission) in deepish snow, I've never had it in really challenging conditions. And it doesn't have lockers, so it wouldn't be a good test anyway. That's all to say there is one thing I'm unsure about with an automatic. Can a constant...
It's not that stock plates would be a problem. And If I buy a Bronco that already has those, I'll likely run them (at least for a while). But if you're in deep snow where the bottom is dragging, smoother has to create less resistance. Less resistance is always good.
Note, in this first...
Thanks for all the good information that everyone has provided. But, armed with this new information I went back to Ford's build tool, and now I'm confused again.
I noticed the couple of used Heritage editions I found for sale didn't have the modular steel bumper needed for a front bash plate...
