For getting in yes, but not completely useless. I have a ram phone mount attached to it :-)
Besides a good place to mount a phone, COMPLETELY useless....
The a-pillar makes way more sense then a handle at the end of the dash

I'm having a similar problem.
I installed the key200.4. It is powered directly to the battery (the m5 accessory stud).
If the truck has been off for more than a few minutes, the amp turns off the autotune settings when I restart the trunk.
Pushing the button on...

Installed a Ram mount v-shape base to the driver's side grab handle.
Attached a RAM Mounts Quick-Grip XL Phone holder to it with a composite Double Socket Arm
I owned an '86 SAAB hatchback a zillion years ago. From the factory, the cargo area had a carpeted cargo area cover made of plywood that worked great.
