Interesting I haven’t messed with many cv axles. The clip was in the groove when I finally found the problem. But I didn’t know there was a problem with the axle and tried to re-insert it for a while before I cleaned everything up looking for a problem. It’s possible I pushed it back in during...
see how the the clip in the first pic isn’t round and the second pic it’s round? First pic is inboard (not damaged) second pic is the outboard. I’m assuming when it was pressed together it wasn’t fully seated or the wrong clip was used. I’d suggest taking it to the dealer so you can get it...
Got the new axle from Ford and installed it last night, went together easily! I’m pretty sure the circlip was halfway installed on the outboard shaft which is what caused all the damage. After seeing the inboard circlip design vs the outboard it’s the only I answer I can come up with. Those...
I called Ford’s customer service number asking about some warranty help on this. They told me to go through the parts manager at the dealer. Not sure if I’m going to get any help but they haven’t said no yet. If anything Ford needs to know about it. Lol this will probably end up being a recall...
The directions said remove it so you can slide it out a little bit to get enough clearance to remove the strut. It was required removing the strut was really tight
Lol read my recent thread and decide from there. I wish I would've just paid someone and I'm very mechanically inclined. If you decide to tackle it buy new axle nuts, according to a TSB someone posted on my thread they are single use nuts.
Well that answers that question. It did seem like they were single use. I asked the parts guy he said there were no notes stating single use. The retaining circlip was there but it seemed way to expanded to be able to get the axle to ever seat again. Even if the axle was never fully seated what...
I've done a lot of suspension work in the past but this Bronco is beating me up pretty bad!
The axle nut galled up the threads on my axle shaft when removing it which is obviously a giant pain but turns out it's not my biggest problem, also my CV joint separated when I leaned the knuckle to...
