BFG KO2 A/Ts versus GOODYEAR M/T TERRITORY

So, my non sas badlands came with the MT option and offroad they are fantastic. But, me being a sucker for a good deaL found a dude getting rid of some badlands rims with brand new bfg ko2s for $1000 bucks for 5 brand new.

Picked them up and swapped them out today, going to monitor:

1 handling
2 road noise
3 off road capabilities
4 fuel economy

I have had the MTs for about 8 months and really no complaints but anxious to see how the ko2s do

I'd take KO2's any day. I've had both on a '22 (KO2's) and a '25 (GY), KO2's all day long.

Are those KO2s a smaller tire or is that just an
optical illusion? Badlands KO2s were a 33”, versus the 35” MT - but you can get KO2s in just about any size you want

Not that there is anything wrong with it - just saying it wont be an apples to apples type

they are both 285 70 17. both came off non sas badlands. it is a bit of an illusion the way it sits

I'll be curious to see how you like the BFG's...I had them on my 85-4 Runner and 2018 Renegade and had a rough time with balancing issues...constantly vibrated and had them re-balanced by three different places. Also when I would hit a puddle of water on the curb side it would pull the steering wheel violently. I hope they have changed and are much better...

I had the factory sas Goodyear tires and they didn’t last me very long at all before becoming super loud. They also were not great at all offroad in my opinion. I swapped them pretty early on for KO2’s and they ride and feel so great on and off road.

Had KO2s on my ‘22 non-SAS Badlands. They were great the first two years but issues came with age. Performance on wet roads was the first thing I noticed. By year four with around 30k miles rain performance was poor. I was planning to replace after one more summer for this reason, regardless of the number of miler or tread left. It was to the point that I had to really ease into acceleration in the rain or they’d slip on me.

I know all tires get louder with age, so maybe this is typical (my first vehicle with A/Ts). Over 60 MPH the tires became very loud With my soft top. I even placed a comforter between the soft top and Bimini. Still too loud to have much of a conversation at 70 MPH. This wasn’t the case when the tires were new. I’d say things went downhill around 25k miles.

The stock tires are the lightest a/t available. They have very weak sidewalls. They are good for mpg and are almost always the cheapest option.

I use both. 315-70-17 Goodyear MT in the Summer and KO2 in winter season.

Took these to our little offroad park nearby and the things i noticed were:

road noise is noticeably less
Road handling was a bit better
Offroad, doing the mid-ruts was really no difference at all
Hillclimbing was where you noticed it. Didnt have any rock crawling to test at this place but 4WD was needed on lesser hills and when I went to climb the steep hill, the front locker was needed to make it up whereas before only the rear was with the MT's

I think we all knew MT's would be better offroad, I just wanted a first hand experience with the difference.

Frankly Im finding out that as far as offroad SUV's go, I do more than most people but I still only get offroad about once every other week, maybe a little more than that but not much. so its still 95% on road. I think the KO2's are fine for anything most offroad folks would do, like 99% of it.

Mind you, im no expert and im far from a tire expert but its rare you can have both sets of tires sitting in your garage ON RIMS ready to swap out and test against each other.

KO2's are the better tire to live with but if you have the option of switching to a MT to get the best offroad capability out of your vehicle? Cool

Swapped Ko2s on my 22 BD 3 days after purchasing. Im pushing 55k and Aug will 4yrs. I rotate every 5-6k and include the spare. My measurements still show 7/32 tread. The only issue with them is wet pavement. Being a lighter vehicle they tend to spin (doesnt help I leave it in sport).

Handling will be worse. Wet road driving will be terrifying.
Road noise will be worse
Off road capabilities will be slightly better.
Fuel economy will be worse.

I was actually impressed with the GY Territory MT's compared to the BFG K02's.
I found them better in snow and never had any issues in any other surface, but pretty similar, maybe a softer sidewall, but I never had any issues.
