As I'm getting things in place to do some offroading with friends this spring, I picked up a Midland MicroMobile GMRS two way radio for my Raptor. I'm all set with where I'm mounting the radio and handset but scratching my head as to the best place to mount the antenna. I've seen some on dashboards inside the vehicle, on top of the roof both front and back as well one I saw hanging upside down off the back bumper. I have the MicroMobile Ghost antenna that looks like a small cone so trying to decide where to mount it. I have enough antenna cable to mount it wherever I want, but not sure.

Where have you mounted yours?

Looks like the folks at Valkyrie Offroad who made my ditch light brackets are out of business. I used their base plate and antenna extension. Other folks have mounted to the swing gate.

I’ve not finished my final mounting location as of yet. The bracket I bought requires an additional ditch light bracket to raise it up to either the outside or behind. I did run the cable through the firewall and up under the cowl panel.

Finally something I actually know about!
...Since my Bronco is primarily driven by The Wife, the only thing she will approve is a small ghost antenna.. I was planning on putting it on the front cowling, but i'm going to wait until I see more pictures/ideas here.

Got any better pics of this? What brand is it?

I'm in the same situation, still trying to decide on an antenna mount AND where to put the full size radio.

The pictures above my 3rd/current setup.

Here is where I started though:

Radio went on a molle panel here, it was annoyingly in the way of the wife's thighs. She was not a fan.

I did a remote speaker so to make things easier to hear. I'm not sure it's necessary. Control panel went on the dash, over time I found that to be a bit in the way for something I hardly touched:

I used a hood/lip mount since that was all that was available when the Bronco hit the market.

On the way back from camping in the Eastern Sierra, performance was horrible. I realize later this was due to a loosely threaded antenna, but it kicked off wanting to make some changes. I moved the radio itself below the steering wheel by drilling the bracket. Placing it there DOES limit steering wheel adjustment, but since I keep mine at the top anyway, it was fine. I followed some other folks advice and got an adhesive backed mount for a GPS unit off ebay, and 3D printed a ball mount for the Yaesu and combined those two. The control panel now sits above the driver's sunshade.

I switched to the rugged radios antenna mount. It was nice and clean. It liked to rotate in place though and the finish sucks and really faded over time. I think this is the only clean shot I have of it.

So that's how I ended up putting those ditch light brackets on and adding their antenna extension. Thankfully the new ditch light brackets covered the whole I had drilled into the plastic to route the wiring. I destroyed the antenna getting it off since it was seized and decided a 33.5" one was probably more than enough for my use. Some guy on Youtube does a pretty good job dropping knowledge, so i grabbed a tester this time around to see how my SWR was looking.

Also worth noting, is that much to the dismay of "some people", I did the MARS mod on that Yaesu, and have since committed B-Band to GMRS and A-Band to HAM. This allows me to run digital with my crew when I want to. These days most folks I run into are on GMRS. One band or another is scanning the calling frequencies and known repeaters, while the other is for simplex.

Also: Thanks Randy, I've learned alot.

Mine is mounted under the drivers seat. Very well hidden. Works great i think, except when i key the mic, i begin to feel a little tingling. 😳🤔

on a side note: i can finally stop using those little blue pills 😊😂.
