I had my old Jeep Rubicon from new (2012) until last week. So basically 13 years. In that time I had a total of zero stone chips on the leading edge of the hood. The one great thing (out of a few) of that Wrangler was the paint quality.
I was about to buy a 2026 Toyota 4Runner, browsed their forums where everyone was ppf-ing this, and ceramic coating that because they all complained the Toyota paint had the toughness of a wet tissue. So at that time I was prepared to get a bug deflector to help save the front leading edge. No way am I going to drop $5k + to cover the paint in a plastic film...
Anyway, so fate for once intervened favourably and I bought a Bronco in the last minute against the 4Runner. The paint on my Heritage is stunning looking - not just the colour but also the apparent quality of it. I love the way it looks au naturelle but would hate to find out that the leading hood edge is susceptible to debris damage.
But is it? Or is this puppy's paint sturdy? Otherwise should I get a bug deflector? The thing is so pretty I mean handsome as is, it almost seems a shame to put this onto it:

Is it worth putting a deflector on this nose?

It sure will look ugly as sin on that paint color.
I vote no.
A strip of PPF along the hood edge is not costly and might offer you peace of mind.

I wouldn’t. Looks bad. Bug deflector will probably run somewhere anyways. Just repaint down the road if it gets bad. Most likely the windshield and surrounding paint will take hits too. So what’s the point.

Your call, but I agree w/ others...go with "clear bra" over hood protector.

FWIW, I bought/installed the black hood protector, but my Bronco's green so it doesn't stand out as much.

No chips in 3 years, my hood gets tree branches dragging over it till the limb risers do their thing.

The bug deflector does work, but I kinda agree with the others, it isn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen.

Clear PPF if you are concerned on that color, for sure, in my opinion.

The paint holds up average.. it's nothing special. Mine is kinda like Valhalla's, pinstriped to shit and has a few rock chips - but most of that is from off roading. I have a couple of chips and one windshield that I can rack up to highway driving though - but that's about par for the course around here.

I don't think they look as bad as everyone says. First 6 months had multiple chips in the paint from driving to work.

For me, I'll take the bug deflector (and protection), over having to repaint a few years down the road and not have it match.

But you do you.

Oh about this - I'd say PPF will definitely help. But ceramic coating doesn't do squat for chips. It will make it easier to wash the dirt and dust off, but won't keep the paint from getting scratched or chipped.

Totally agree with others the bug deflector would stand out too much especially with that color. I put one on mine but it's carbonized gray so it doesn't really stand out.

I too don't think the look is all that bad. I prefer protection over cosmetics. It ties in with the other black parts.
