The side rails don't look nearly beefy enough.
My Valkyrie prototype on the Bronco had a second revision, with much sturdier components, 50% taller side rails...
I dunno but it feels very strong and holds 700 pounds

I have the ZROADZ Rack and I can get the front two panels off. The rack is real well built. Putting a tent on it would be easy.

How could it be improved?
It's a good rack, a solid design, and a decent value. I also appreciate the ports in the cross bars to insert nuts or bolts. Speaking of bolts, I dig that the cross bars accept standard 1/4" carriage bolt heads. I have other 10 Series T-slot extrusion that does not.

1) a metric design for a metric truck would be nice.
2) better access to the windshield nuts with the deflector in place, particularly on the passenger side, would help with install/removal. I left the logo backing plate off the driver side for better access.
3) the front reinforcement plates should be either part of the rack or offered when the rack is sold (preferably with some discount). They only have a 4 door plate, and it works for the 2 door, but not all the holes are there in the rack.
4) A roof clamp that attached to the roof independently of the rack might make install/removal easier.
5) adapters that attach to the roll bar and allow the rack to be used without the roof would be nice. I was going to fabricate something myself, but with my Eibach Pro Trucks and HD springs, the truck no longer fits in the garage with the rack on it.

The exposed/uncovered windshield mounting points makes my OCD crazy.
The unfilled counterbored hole in the brace picture tickles my OCD as well. Thought about drilling a hole in the rack to fill it, but I'm trying to be stronger.

I’ve been running a Prinsu Pro roof rack for a little over a year now. I have a 190 pound tent and an 80 pound awning mounted to my bronco. When we camp, between the weight of the tent, awning and the family of 4, there’s roughly 800 pound on the roof rack. It’s been super solid. I have no complaints whatsoever.

As far as mounting the tent on a Prinsu, if you purchase the Prinsu tent mounts it makes it super easy. You’ll just need an extra long ratcheting wrench to tighten it down.

Powder Coat holding up? I have their low pro awning brackets and they’re a mess after one year.

How bout JCR? Have you checked their rack out? I have it and it runs in either a full or half rack configuration. I go back and forth between the two. I have the side racks as well and just leave them on but they too are easy enough to remove if you want.

Low enough I can still get in the garage, high enough that you can remove the roof panels with the full rack on.

And the half rack configuration without the side panels.

I'm biased, but Expedition One makes some fantastic products. Incredibly well thought out and very attractive. Plus, they're designed and built in Ogden, Utah.

You can indeed. I have mine hanging from the ceiling currently with the half rack installed. If you just want to remove the front and passenger's (rear seat) panels, you can do that with the half rack installed as well. Heck, you can remove the panels with the full rack in place although I have a sun screen pretty much permanently installed (as I'll never take it off) and I'd probably tear my hair out trying to remove the panels with both in place.

That actually does look like a great rack. I think the JCR will swing up like that as well, three bolts connecting it to the rear portion and you could just leave the center bolt in place and rotate the rack up. None the less, the Expedition looks a little more finished than the JCR.

That sucks. Have you contacted them? I know their lifetime warranty doesn’t cover powder coat, but you’d think they’d step up and send you a new set after only a year. You’d expect way more life out of a Prinsu product, especially for the price you pay. So far the powder coat on my roof rack has held up fine. It hasn’t faded or worn off in any spots.

I have and love the Leitner. Extremely well built and very quiet. Roof panels can still easily be removed from the side. Was also able to mount my old Frontrunner camp take underneath just like it was on my 5th Gen 4R. Great company to deal with too!
