Strong odor (not like gas but unique - I don’t work on my vehicles so not an expert) - it was wet, only slightly thicker than water maybe. It tasted like my ex-wife’s cooking.
Only thing with fuel theory is there was enough wet stuff in area to get on my fingers and it didn’t smell like gas at all - it was oil, as best as I could tell
Yes AZ is hot - in Aug we have had true temps at 118 - that is not a heat index, rather an actual air temperature. Kind of like sticking your head, or in this case, a rear differential in an oven. They say: yeah, but it’s a dry heat … thing is, it is heat none-the-less
Yes, will clean - can rule out brakes I guess, too far away ?? - what are the odds I picked up splatter on trail somehow - maybe where an oil pan of another vesicle ruptured or something else as random - insane thought but I’m to that point already :-)
Under stress I wonder if piñon is flexing somehow and oil is forcefully spraying without leaving a trace near seal - I do off road often here in AZ so the stresses to drivetrain might be more than a normal mall crawler
I was thinking coil overs but they are far away from where this oil is landing and it’s only on one side of the gas tank - oil coming from shock would need to jump past drive shaft to end up where it is - drive shaft and shocks seems dry so I didn’t think it was shock
I’ll try to get more pics...
Crawled under Sqatch Bronco today and found an oil reside splattered at what i assume is rear of gas tank near rear axle pumpkin - see pic - enough to be noticed but not leaking to ground as best as I can tell. Rear pumpkin and drive shaft seem dry so I don’t believe it is from there. Substance...
