Matt is a big help with recovery during the event, as is Rory from Moab Motorsports and Casey's OffRoad. Karnage Welder and 23Diesel also assist with trail fixes, and my friend Mike vacations that week and spends it all volunteering for trail repairs. Lots going on :)
Agreed, the ride is 100x improved, we overall love the upgrade. I think the rear 2.0 valving is a bit light (bouncy) and would benefit from a little more rebound.
We spent 6 weeks in Ouray this summer and everything was open. Very low snowpack this year. There have been some recent monsoon rains, so do watch the weather before heading out.
We had zero issues with our OBX on 34's, only used the rear locker a handful of times.
Sorry, I wasn't staring at it when it bent :) My "guess" is the sway bar moved in the bushings on extension, and then decided to not move on compression, and the link was the weak point.
NADA. You will bend the link that remains attached, BTDT, and got to purchase a new end link.
Better to remove both and tie the links to the bar for day trips. For multi-day events, removing the bar entirely takes a minute with an impact (4 bolts). That will be our plan in the future.
Our OBX...
We liked the OBX, color matched flares and mirrors, preferred the interior. We got ours with the rear locker, added a front bumper, skids and steps/sliders, did a low lift for better ride, powdercoated the factory wheels and added 34" tires.
Daily drives AND wheels awesome.
The front sway bar isn't really needed for "normal" daily driving and is a definite hindrance offroad. We removed ours entirely in Ouray a couple weeks back. My wife drove 7+ hours home today at 80mph without it, no issues.
Where it DOES come into play is emergency avoidance....ie: two deer...
And to follow up, we removed our sway bar....completely :) Sitting on the picnic table right now. Will likely put back in, since our OBX is a daily driver, but definitely will keep it disconnected/removed for our summers in the San Juans :)
Made a vast improvement in so many areas. No wonder I...
I first did Black Bear in 2007, and it was FAR narrower then. Drivers side tires just off the wall, passenger side scrubbing rocks to the switch back below. We've been out here every year for the past 12+, and have been the first car down a few times (snow 6' above the roofline!). My wife has...
We have the 2.0 Eibach lift, set almost as low as possible. The rear shocks are a bit light on rebound, but overall the trail/street ride is great, far better than stock. IMO, too soft for aggressive/speed driving.
I keep forgetting to contact Eibach and see what I can do to adjust the shim...
