With a 2021 living in New England, I am most thankful for the professional rust treatment I did as soon as I took delivery. In comparing mine to some other 2021s in my area, they are in rough shape already. I have a good video of the process and they do an alarming review of the paint...
The math doesn't seem right. Are you saying your new wheels/tires are lighter than OEM? The stock goodyears are very light (52 pounds). Your new tires are 74 pounds each. So your new rims are lighter than air? Or is there weight savings somewhere else?
Yes that seems needed as the rust-prone brackets are a clear weak point. Aluminum or stainless (or even plastic) would be an improvement, and save Oracle a lot in warrantee claims, and negative product reviews. But again, in my experience, their customer service was good and I got a replacement...
when Oracle sent me a replacement set (which seemed identical to the ones that had rusted), I took them apart, sanded, primed, painted, and poly sprayed them). It's been a year now and they still look new.
If you primarily drive on backroads (not city, not highway), the mileage is not terrible. I can average over 25mpg at those speeds (4-door Wildtrak hardtop with roof rack). In the city, its weight is the problem. On the highway, it's the aerodynamics. On backroads at 40-45mph, it's pretty efficient.
Audi had it and other brands used to also. Such a no brainer.
You may not be a skier, but it is always preferable to put your skis in the car and just us a rack when you need. it.
I hate that there is no center pass through for the rear seats to put skis through while still being able to seat four people in the car - especially for people with soft-tops who don't have good options for roof racks.
