Thanks, interesting video. If our problem is indeed true pre-ignition (ignition before spark), then there might be nothing we can do. But wouldn't the knock occur at all engine temperatures, not only when cold? I think it is still likely that the problem is that ignition timing is too...
I went to 3 different dealers for this and even got Ford involved via this forum - the dealers did their best, heard the sound (yet stopped short of calling it knock), and all said they could not do anything since there are no codes or anything to point to that is wrong or how to fix it. I...
it's definitely a noisy engine, which I can accept, but the pinging specifically is irritating because I know that it's rough on the pistons/connecting rods/etc (even though the sound itself is pretty subtle). I guess there is some possibility that the cause is something different, but it sure...
So I left mine at a different dealer to check out in morning when fully cold. They found no codes (which I knew) so said nothing was wrong, then I did a test drive with mechanic who said he heard it but thought it might be something else (like fuel injectors, but this would not happen only...
yes, kind of subtle though, like marbles shaking in a coffee can, only alarming because it sounds exactly like (and probably is) pre-ignition which is a known cause of engine damage
Hard to tell but pretty sure it's different. I have an automatic and it doesn't happen at idle or randomly, happens consistently but only under load before engine warmed up.
I have the exact same problem. 2.3 engine, pinging on even modest acceleration, goes away when engine is warmed up. Sounds exactly like pinging/knocking/pre-ignition I have had on older non-turbo vehicles. This is my first turbo but I have read that wastegate rattle is more noticeable on...
