    Are you doing this with more than one person in the back? IMO one of the big benefits of the Deepsleep is it contours to the sides and uses the space efficiently. This is helpful in my case being 6'3'' and having a wife and two dogs in there as well.

    It's definitely thick/durable material. Plus I always cover it with a flannel sheet and/or a blanket. Haven't had any issues with the dogs, or with any punctures in general. Deepsleep's website states its meant to hold up to use with dogs/pets.

    Yes, Alabama Hills is on BLM land, and the trails are very easy. Southern California has an abundance of public land... some of which features some serious rock crawling - notably Johnson Valley, which hosts the King of Hammers this month.
