When I first mounted mine I mounted the spare and let it sit over night, it lost about 10lbs. I removed the ring and used Extra Seal tire mounting compound between the tire and wheel to seal. after 2 yrs no leaks.
Most trailers of this style are pretty flat with the top of the ball at 18" from the ground. But you can get really accurate if you load the trailer with all your stuff then level the trailer on level ground and measure to the top of the ball socket and calculate your hitch from there.
