I had my TSB done at University Ford in Durham, NC. They installed the D-rings. The are very professional and got it done in 5 days. It has been over a month and about a thousand miles with no grinding sound!

Correction, 2022 base model.

I took my 2002 base model in for the TSB repair last Monday and got it back yesterday (Friday). D-Ring Synchronizers have been installed. I have driven for about 100 miles now and no more grinding noise. It also shifts great, perhaps smoother than before! I will update periodically, fingers crossed!

Yes that would have been nice. In fact, I bought from Carvana instead of ordering during the March 24 hour order bank opening BECAUSE I wanted an manual transmission, which they curiously did not offer this year! if I could turn back time!

I am curious as to what was the trigger for the buyback? Was it just that they could not correct the synchro grinding issue after many attempts, or did you have a more severe transmission failure? Sorry for being redundant, I am sure you have addressed this back in the feed.

In the mid-60s here in NC today and I did not hear it in neutral but I almost always here the grinding when in 1-3 gears, especially when driving slower like in a parking lot.

Out of curiosity does anyone know the proportion of the 7-speed MTs that actually do not develop the grinding noise issue? Or do they all go bad eventually? I have seen some YouTube shows, like Budget Bronco and Money Shift, they both have 7-speed MTs and do not report issues.
