  1. Spare tire mount reinforcement kit now available from Ford Performance Parts

It took all of the rattles out of my tailgate. This was an issue that was supposedly fixed only by replacing the whole gate. I wasn't interested in that. I was one of the early adopters to this kit and had issues with the threaded holes in the hinges that were all boogered up.. FPP ended up...

No... the exoskeleton attaches to the threaded holes in the new hinges.

Agreed, the hinges are most certainly an upgrade over non Raptor. They are significantly beefier. Adding this kit took the annoying rattle out of my tailgate.

Yup, known issue. It is discussed in this thread. You will need to chase the holes with a tap.

You use the black hinges. That is how the exoskeleton attaches.

You will not use the silver brackets. They are body color on your truck now. No idea why they are even included. Somewhere in this post it is confirmed they are the same as what our trucks already have. You will just un bolt your hinges and place the Raptor units in place.

Have a look at the installation instructions. You have to modify the carrier to work with the exoskeleton.

No mention in the instructions but suspect it will work. The tailgate is the same and the tire carrier uses the same mounting holes and bolts. They now sell the upgraded carrier for the bigger tire. You still have to notch the carrier to work with the exoskeleton.

I found an amazing side effect of installing this on my truck.....the annoying rattle in the tailgate is completely gone. This was supposedly only fixed by replacing the tailgate and it seems like it only worked some of the time. This made the effort to install this 100% more worth it to me lol

I only had trouble with one bolt and was not able to remove it that far. So I never got the thread lock to come off like in your picture. It sure seems like that bolt got cross threaded. Did it go in smooth without much effort? I think I saw you cleaned up the holes. I had to destroy my...

Replaced with no cost to me. The warranty guys were great. You can chat with them on the Perfoamce Parts website and by email.

My hinges, bolts and exoskeleton were replaced. Cutting the exoskeleton off was a giant pain. There is metal running through the plastic. I used a rotozip to cut around the bolt hole.

Tp45 on the hinges themselves. Tp40 for the bolts that hold the exoskeleton. You will want to chase the threads on those holes with an m8x1.25 tap. Most likely at least 2 of the holes will be boogered up.
  14. Spare tire mount reinforcement kit now available from Ford Performance Parts

Contact the tech line and warranty. They are aware of the issues. They replaced my hinges, exoskeleton and bolts.. Because I had a bolt get stripped, I had to destroy my exoskeleton to get the hinges off. A few pics and emails and they took care of it. [email protected] [email protected] You...

I am sure you have figured it out from the other posts.. but also check the threads in the 2 holes in each hinge. Most likely will need attention.
