I haul people all the time. During the winter I regularly have it filled with 3 passengers + me & all our snowboarding gear, driving up to the mountain each weekend.
One friend said, "wow barely any room to fit it all." My response was No, exactly enough room.
I don't mind being a buddy...
I've been thinking it'd be cool for someone to come up with some sort of quick release hinge for it. I'd also love to be able to pop it off easily when the front panels are off. Leaving it open on short drives hasn't been an issue so far tho.
My sub & amp came from factory not working, so since I was replacing both, I figured I'd upgrade the box to this: https://additivecaraudio.com/shop/bronco-subwoofer-square/
Fits in the factory location perfectly. Just had to run a thicker power cable for the amp, but that was pretty easy.
I just replaced all the 4 inches with infinity references & added a 8in square kicker sub in the back. Also added sound deadening while working on the sub. I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out.
I'd say just replacing the 4" speakers is good enough for a quick & easy upgrade. But then...
Personally, a RTT seems like kind of a waste. Heavy, expensive, & I don't want a tent living on the roof of my truck. It's still a daily at the end of the day.
I just use a basic 3 person dome tent from REI. It has just enough room for me +1 & some gear. It was cheap, light, super fast to set...
