If I'm waiting ~a year for my Bronco (worst case scenario) what can I do for the mid-term? Better to buy a car and flip at the end of the year? It looks like one year leases, if you can even find them, are egregiously expensive. Anyone else in the batch 5+ situation thinking about what to do to ride out the time ?

Not in batch 5 but I still have a wait. I drive old trucks. If it was me I’d buy a cheap beater to drive into the ground or sell later. This is coming from someone that’s never bought a new car before though, so take that how you want.

Back in September, I was in a similar situation. I wanted to get rid of my car loan so I could start saving for the Bronco. I went and bought an 03 Honda Element for like $4k pretty much just as a hold over until the Bronco is released. No car loan, cheap insurance, and only costs I've put in so far are for gas. I actually have gotten to love this car a lot, I might just hold on to it after I get my Bronco. I think just buying a cheap reliable car would be the best solution, especially if it is a Honda or Toyota, the value of it won't drop too much over a year.

So you're saying the 2019 Miata RF I'm looking at right now... not the right pick? :D

Probably not the best idea to buy a 2019, but if Miata's hold their value well it might not be the absolute worst idea. It sure would be a blast to drive

I sold my car back in March of last year and was going to get a new Jeep at the end of summer before I put my Bronco order in and that changed everything. I ended up finding a 2000 F150 in September for $2k and had to put $2k into the suspension, but this will get me through however long I need to wait and I'll keep it after for towing/hauling needs.
