I go there enough with a few friends. not really into the large groups - too slow, too many stops for it to be of much fun for me.
Have fun if you go though

@gjptennis Yea, i hear you with the group thing, im a solo person myself. I've never been here so figured it would be worth the look. Any suggestions of what to bring, needs etc?
SeptuagenerianSasquatch
@Combustion_King I looked at their site. From the aerial drone shot, it doesn't look like much of a facility. A large loop, suitable for children's and teen motocross, but serious 4x4s? Looks kind of tame to me. Now, another get-together at Armor Ditch could be fun (I'd like another try at Double Dog Dare), and what if we organized a group run for Old Florida Road?

Yea, im not expecting no Armor ditch ride, lol but ill give a try. i should go get muddy at the ditch before goingšŸ˜Ž

They just did a Bronco day at Armor ditch, it was august 10th. Decent turnout, great weather!

Ratz...I don't follow the Facebook group as I should. I will now!

@Combustion_King - so @SeptuagenerianSasquatch obviously hasn't been to 508. while there is a large motocross track - you will see them flying around and jumping - there are a ton of trails within the woods of the property and a rather large rock garden. if you are not prepared or take good lines, you will take damage. I've seen other vehicles break driveshafts in that rock garden. there are also some smaller rocky ledges that you can crawl around on. there are few trails with tight turns and a couple of climbing spots right in the main lot. most of the trails are somewhat similar to what you will get at Armor Ditch.

as for Old Florida Road, I do not recommend solo and just know that there are no bypasses for any of the obstacles. it is private property on both sides of the trail and there are cameras. the 4x4 club I belong to maintains some of the cameras and others are owned/operated by the property owners. so if you trespass, you run the risk of losing access to the trail for everyone. there is already talk of shutting the trail down in that town. my club has a fund to help preserve it but trespassers and others who leave trash run the risk of ruining it for all. the gate keeper has a large rock followed by a 5ft ledge to climb - no bypass. you either get up it (either on your own or by pulling cable) or have to turn around. I've done that trail a few times. it's pretty fun but you have to take smart lines or, again, you will take damage. last time we were there, a bronco from the facebook group snapped an axle and and to be winched down the gatekeeper.

@gjptennis Regarding "508," that's good to know. I'll be alert for other events or meetups there.

Re: Old Florida Road, I know better than to attempt that solo, and I'm familiar with the advisories about violating the abutting property with work-arounds. I still want to do it--but do it right, and responsibly, with a group and at least one person who knows it well. Thanks for the post!

Edit/PS: I'm tired of threads on mudflaps, but I wade into them with the caution against rigid Mabbet/iAG-type mudflaps if you're going to attempt serious rocks and trails, as you don't want to litter them with your broken plastic.

@gjptennis what’s your setup for the 508?

I’ve done rock gardens at the ditch, the MaBell trail, and general class 6 rd around Nh

I watched some
YouTube vids of jeeps at 508, doesn’t seem anything to crazy.

I got a stock SAS badlands, with few more skid plate upgrades, so far it’s been a beast

@Combustion_King - my setup is the same regardless of where I wheel. I am on king shocks (which I adjust for the terrain), 37s, full JCR skids, Warn Evo 10k winch, JCR winch mount, RCI 20deg sliders, Hammer Built tailgate reinforcement. Heavy duty tie rods (2 sets of spares). Next week, the Carli torsion bar and RCV axles will be installed as well. My Wildtrak doesn’t have a ton stock anymore. Oh and since mine was built before the HOSS 3.0 was out, I also have the heavy duty steering rack installed (with the original 2.0 rack as a spare). I’m probably forgetting stuff but that’s the major pieces.

The rock garden at 508 is way more difficult than Armor Ditch. There are rigs on 40s+ that struggle through it. I’ve seen a lot of breakage in that area. The rock garden is optional and you can watch people do it. There are some other rock ledges to crawl as well but that rock garden will do real damage if you’re not careful.

You also do not have to wait for a meetup to go to 508. Once a month they have a ā€œJeepā€ day but that just means any full size rig can go. It’s always on a Sunday and all you have to do is sign the waiver - good for a year - and pay the fee and you can run the trails, climbing sections, rock garden, etc. just can’t go on the motocross track.

I’ve done MaBell as well as a bunch of class vi roads and some private property with the club I belong to - not the Facebook club. They do not really off-road that much. It’s more meetups and lunch, which is fine. I just don’t like all the stopping on the trails (when they do hit trails) and it gets to be way too many vehicles with that Facebook group which really slows the day down.

Hope that helps!

I included a couple of pics of the Old Florida Rd gatekeeper so you can see it’s not a simple obstacle. Damage can be had, there is a rock wall on the right that you can easily hit when climbing. And again, a Facebook group bronco snapped an axle, had to be winched down and towed home Last time I was there.
