I have some open time tomorrow and I was thinking of doing Old Bucktown Road. Is it a safe bet to go solo on that trail for a relative newbie to off roading? I don't have a winch. Anyone interested in slacking off and joining me? I will probably shoot to get to Nimblewill sometime mid morning. I am looking to get out more with experienced folks when I have time.

Also - I am doing the ORA 101 class in Dahlonega next weekend. Sounds like some folks here found it valuable.

It's fine as a solo, it's like a 3/10 trail. You'll also see other traffic up there. There is one rutted section, just don't put half your bronco tilted into the dip and you'll be fine.

If you’ve got a rear locker, depending on how muddy, it may come in handy. Remember to turn off traction control and take your time. It’ll be fun!

Typically I would be down to clown but have a ton to get done around the house before the move.

I'd recommend starting from the top and heading down if you are really nervous about getting stuck. Gravity is your friend. Plus you get some warm up maintained gravel roads on the approach.

Good hiking at the start of the trail to get out and stretch the legs as well.

I did make the trip yesterday. I drove up Nimblewill and walked around and ate. BUT my plans got derailed when an Appalachian Trail hiker said she was done and wanted a ride to a lodge. She was struggling. SO I drove her back down Nimblewill to the Amicalola Falls lodge. That was about an hour and I was thinking of throwing in the towel but I decided to press on and went to Old Bucktown from the bottom.

It was really fun. Started off dicey with some deep ruts that I wasn't sure about the best way to approach. But ultimately the Bronco didn't seem to worried about it. I didn't use the lockers or 4L. Ultimately ended up to be a great day.

Sad about the thru hiker. Hope she gets her nerve after thinking it over a bit. Proud of anyone who tries one of the triple crown hikes. Glad you were able to have some fun on Old Bucktown. We really have to get some rides together soon.
