Hey everybody, happy Father’s Day! I am new to the off road world. My lack of experience has definitely kept me from venturing out on the trails. I am going to be near Drummund Island next week and am looking for some recommendations. Do you guys feel I would be able to navigate the trails or would I be in over my head? I would have my wife and kids with me and wouldn’t want anything too challenging. Any feedback would really be appreciated!

I would not go do Drummond Island without at least one other Bronco that has a winch. Big bonus if someone in the group has been there before. I know some of the Michigan Bronco Club members are going, but not until Sept. I think.

[edit]: I wouldn't go on the trails we happened to take w/o peeps.

We do have a bunch of events throughout the year where you can come join the group rides and get some experience. It's a journey; welcome!

I appreciate that! I will wait to go on one of the group events. Not worth ruining the vacation getting stranded on the island 🤣

Just my two cents, Drummond is pretty cool tot check out, even if you don’t hit the trails. The ferry ride, awesome views and hiking trails are pretty cool. Agree with Jake, Drummond can get pretty hairy, pretty fast if your not prepared. Definitely join us on a club ride and we can help you get comfortable heading off road.

I thinking you will be OK on many of the easier trails, the drive to Fossil Ledge, Glen Cove and Sitgreaves bay are pretty easy. If you go, get a map at the visitors center on the northwest corner of the 4 way flasher, and stick to the 2wd truck and 4wd trails. Avoid the 4x4 challenge trails without an experienced partner or guide. The trails can go from 60 to 0 in a very short period.
And don't be afraid to say no.

My GF and I got around Drummond Island pretty easily solo. Just choose your trails correctly based on skill level. You can have a lot of fun there without the need for a support group. I have plenty of our Drummond Island drive in this video and you can see what we experienced.
I say go for it!
FYI...I am NOT an "experienced" off-roader.

I absolutely love Drummond and we have spent a lot of time there over the years. It is definitely possible to explore without going into some of the more aggressive areas. Fossil Ledges was a great suggestion for a nice ride out to a beautiful location - it is one of my favorite places to visit. I would also recommend stopping in at the Visitors Center at Four Corners - it is across from the grocery store and next to the TeePee ice cream stand. You can get maps there and I'm sure that they could give you some good suggestions of places to go where you will stay out of trouble. And plan on joining up with a club visit in the future - we love to share one of our favorite off road destinations!
