With the Trail App finally released (still a little buggy, but promising), there are some ”get your feet wet on off-roading” sites in North Georgia that are listed as easy that any of us can do. Even those trails listed as moderate don’t seem to be that bad, and the difficult trails are technical, but doable with 33s or 35s, since a few are known, but for now, let’s focus on easy and moderate.

Think with some basic recovery gear (shackles, straps, shovel, or traction boards), anyone reading this could give a few of these a go. Easy are just some dirt roads; sure, but they’re in a beautiful area and gives the opportunity to meet up and have some fun outdoors. Nothing ever wrong with an overnight camp either at some point.

Between more meet ups as @MyATV proposed and the trial app showing public accessible trails (I assume), we can pull things together with minimal planning. For those who have not yet done so, a GMRS radio license is only like $35 now for 10 years and even cheap handheld radios should be enough for fun on these trials where we can hear each other.

Please share any thoughts, concerns, or suggestions to testing out the Trial App?

I’m going to try N GA area in a few weeks. I’ll announce here when I go.

So far I am horribly underwhelmed. The video records the first frame, then is frozen. Setting it up was a nightmare. The trails in N GA are nearly too many to count, but the app has a handful at best.. I've got hopes, but I'll stick to Gaia and past experience for now.

@GABroncin I figured out that if you don't hit the camera button first and just hit the red record it actually records the video properly.

@GABroncin Feeling you. I use Gaia as well; haven’t taken a go at OnX though. Trail App is definately still crawling, but it’ll be on its feet in the next few months. The record feature is pretty cool, but man does that seem complicated with all the telemetry in real time. I like seeing ambition and innovation, so I’ll be patient. What I do like about the trails in the app are that they’re verified at some level to be accessible. I’ve been out before and had to improvise in the past; part of wheeling I guess, but don’t want anyone here to get turned off from something like that. Easier it is to get out, the more likely folks are to do so and love it.

Saying the rating system is unreliable is an understatement. The easy and moderate are dirt roads more or less and the difficult trails range from "you should be fine stock" to "you are going to be walking out if you go in stock.

I think that it is a good app in terms of getting people out that typically would not be going out though. Just do some research and do not solely rely on the app rating. Also make sure to look if a trail is open before you make the trek out to it.

The difference between going down old bucktown versus up old bucktown for instance is massive. Then you start looking at Beasleys knob and you are into some pretty serious wheeling where you are going to be dragging bottom often.

I think I will be leaning on the app just for finding a few extra camping spots.
