Hey Everyone, we're going to run Montana Mountain Loop Sunday March 19th. We can call it our Last run of the Winter!
Meet up at the Bashas in Gold Canyon (5311 S. Superstition Mountain Drive, Gold Canyon, AZ 85118) at 8:30am and hit the road to the trail at 9:00 sharp. It should be about a 20 minute drive from there to the trail at Queen Valley where we will air down and hit the trail. If you are coming from the other direction or just want to meet us at the trail the coordinates are 33.27685, -111.27574. Keep in mind if you’re coming from Phoenix, there is no gas beyond Gold Canyon and there could be some extra traffic for the Renaissance Festival.
Montana Mountain is a scenic high-mountain loop that is rated easy with some moderate areas along the trail. We have run it many times. We did it in October in this group. (Keep in mind, whenever you go off-road in Arizona, you run the risk of Arizona Pinstripes. We can never guarantee a pinstripe free run!)
You should have no issues with a stock Bronco of any trim. The trail is moderately rocky in some spots with some small washouts and rutted areas but nothing alarming that we’ve ever experienced. There are some great fun switchbacks that we will come down on the back side of the loop.
This is a 29-mile trail and we will be on the trail for a solid 5-6 hours. We will stop for lunch along the way. If you have the FunTreks Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails book, this is trail number 52.
We will break for lunch along the trail. Make sure to bring something to eat! Additionally, please remember to bring a GMRS/FRS radio. We will likely be on channel 7 through this run.
Look forward to seeing you out there!
This is posted in the Arizona Broncos Facebook group as well. If you are on Facebook and are planning to go, please rsvp going there. If you're not on FB, let me know so I can have a tally. As of now, we have about 12 people (8 rigs) who say they're going.
