Has me wondering if the Stephens deal is real as its a good bit closer than Granger. Chances are Im not even keeping my Bronco anymore. Just buying to flip since I have such an early FE reservation.

@Dmk08 Right!!! Sounds like a tangle-ly mess! He would have to get a loan to pay you and then he can register the rig in "his name" LOL. Or would you need to register the rig first, then sell it, and then he re-registers it?

@GiddyUp luckily paying cash so that part wont be sticky but Im not sure GA would let us register it and then re-register it without paying TAVT twice. Also adding a second owner to carfax immediately would stink.

@Dmk08 Grief ... didn't think about that tax! I wonder if you there's a clause that allows you to buy and "gift" it to him and it gets registered only once. Sounds like a call with the tag office is at hand as to the best way to approach this. Good luck to you ... and Dad!

Dmk08, just call your tag office and ask "im buying a 2020 Nissan sentra (or whatever) and giving it to my adult son in a few weeks. What is the process to prevent paying the tavt tax a 2nd time." Im in insurance and we see this often and im told there is a family gift exemption but I don't know if its a full or partial exception to that tax. I know you'll have to pay the title registration fee twice, but its only $15 or $20 or whatever so who cares. And if the answer seems unsure, just thank them hang up and call back an hour later until you get someone who knows what they're talking about. This gifting happens A LOT.
