Headed out to stay in Banner Elk later this month. Being from coastal NC, any suggestions for where I could take the Bronco near there with three young kids in the back that would be fun? Some mud on the tires would be nice. I'm fine with some hiking towards a picnic area even though the 4yr old's pace is a little slow her endurance is good.
Over been doing some reading (Grandfather Mtn is close), and I might be able to convince the wife to go to Pisgah if we have enough snacks. But I figured it's best to hear directly from people with Broncos who know specifics on the area 🙂

Brown Mountain OHV trail is ok. There is really one trail for 4WD vehicles and it is not difficult. There is a nice rocky area at the top with a bit of a view.

I’m trying to find it. There is a hike in that area that you drive in on a gravel road any car could do, but it’s washboardy. Anyway the hike is rocky and has great views.

They do 4WD tours up on Beech Mountain, but I don’t think with private vehicles.

Hebron Rock Colony off Boone Fork Trail is really cool. Did that one many times even in flip flops, albeit from the bottom route not the top/Boone Fork direction. The Fire Tower road in Boone used to be fun, but it's been 20 years since I went that way.

Thanks! This is good. Going to research all of this. I don't have a winch, how quickly do you think Amazon delivers if I get stuck 🤔

Congrats on your new Bronco! I spend a lot of time exploring that area. I highly recommend the OnX Offroad app. It is LOADED with Offroad opportunities in the Appalachians. There is a pretty vast network of forest service roads, including the aforementioned "Old 105" at Linville Gorge. I go up there (from Burlington) at least a couple of times a month in my BD....Let me know if you would like to pair up one weekend for some fun!
