Greetings Michiganians - I am from Texas but will be visiting the UP the first two weeks of October. We will be driving the 20hr trip in our 2022 Badlands.
I would like to have any recommendations on what to see or do while in the UP including any off road drives. We do plan on going to Drummond Island so any recommendations while there would be appreciated.
I will say this - I would like to stay away from hard/extreme trails as we will probably be alone and I don’t really want to push the envelope while on vacation.

thanks for y’all’s suggestions and I can’t wait to see y’all’s beautiful state for the first time.

Taquamenon upper and lower falls there’s also a brewery there for food and drink, miners Falls, miners castle, kitcititikipi (I’m sure I spelled it wrong). Big natural spring that’s cool. crisp point light house and surrounding area has good trails. Just getting to the light house is an adventure! If you want to stay in the east side then don’t worry about miners castle and falls or the spring.

On Drummond - I always love to take the drive out to Fossil Ledges. It is not a tough trail but worth the ride - the ledges are amazing and the kids and I love to find cool fossils. It is a beautiful spot. A lot of the state land is fun to explore and there are bypasses for the majority of the tougher spots. As far as other things in the UP, we loved Pictured Rocks, Oswald's Bear Ranch was fun, we hit several breweries and enjoyed them. Whitefish Point and the Shipwreck museum. Watch a freighter go through the locks in Sault St. Marie.

Just got back from there about a month ago. I agree with @'21OBX on the suggestions. There is a neat little hike between the Upper and Lower Falls at Tahquamenon (4 miles or so), Painted Rocks National Lakeshore is also pretty cool. Stop at Clydes for burgers, Mackinac Fish Company for the whitefish spread, and pasties at Lehto's (not my taste, by worth trying for some UP flair) in St. Ignace, just over the bridge. Take the ferry over to Mackinac Island, too. You will have to leave your Bronco behind for that part, unfortunately - no cars allowed.

@TroutHunter - totally agree with the Clydes recommendation! Always our first stop when we cross the bridge.

Also, if you are a Bells Two Hearted IPA fan, you can visit the namesake river in the northern part of the UP!

And if your not a Two Hearted fan, you must not have tried it yet :)

I like widow maker black ale by Keweenaw brewing company better myself.

Thank you for all the suggestions. The fact that half of them seem to be beer related seems about right. 🤣
I’ll post pics when we get back.

So much great to see and so many two tracks to visit. There are so many 2 tracks around the Tahquamenon Falls area that are good drives to visit. Crisp Point Lighthouse is a great one o visit and the roads back sometimes require 4x4 so that would give you a destination. Kitch-I-Ti-Kippi is fantastic and I definitely recommend as well. Sault Ste Marie to see the locks are worth it. If you end up the Houghton area, the porcupine mountains are worth a stop and visiting the Lake of the Clouds. Heading up to Copper Harbor is a great drive too with lots of two tracks there as well. Shameless plug alert- I own a B&B in Grand Haven Michigan on Lake Michigan (Looking Glass Beachfront Inn) if you need a stop on the way up. Great views from our place. https://lookingglassmi.com/
