July 16th 9th Signal Peak Day Trip? I am new to the area and this is one of the easier trails I have found. Trail should be doable in a stock Bronco, I will most likely be in my Big Bend with no lockers.

http://4x4trailmaps.com/4x4Trails.php?Trail_ID=82

8:00am to 8:30am meeting Raley's (coffee/restroom stop)
6119 Horseshoe Bar Rd, Loomis, CA 95650
9:30am to 10:00am Fordyce Trail Head (restroom/de-air)
Carlyle Rd, Nevada City, CA 95959
6pm back in town.

Open to anyone who wants to get there Bronco or current vehicle dirty. No skill restrictions, just make sure you have a full gas tank!

I was up there on June 9 with friend in his FE. Still some snow blocking access (probably clear soon) to the very top, but may be clear now. There are a few tricky parts, especially one muddy section ( will be drier) that we detoured up over some larger rocks and a fun climb. Used rear locker a couple times, but more out of convenience than necessity. The bushy sections of the trail are just wide enough for a Bronco to avoid pin striping. It was a hoot and the views from the top at the abandoned fire lookout and left of the antenna station were incredible. Have fun!

It would take a series of miracles for me to have mine in time (currently scheduled for last week of June), but if by some strange twist of fate I can make it, I will.

Definitely interested. Won’t be in a bronco, but in my zr2

I am interested but I am camping on the coast that weekend. What about June 25 or July 16?

@Big Rig June 25th is Midnight Madness at Shaver Lake with Clovis Independent 4x4 a few of us will be going. I have no issues if we do the 16th if we can get more people.

@Snacktime Sounds good. I will keep that weekend open and watch what happens on this post.

I haven't been on very many trails in the area, but I've heard this one mentioned a few times. Is it a 1 day up and back from the Sac area?
Snacktime
Snacktime
@da_jokker from what I can tell it's a day trip and can be run on 33s and no lockers. Only 3-4 miles of trail and 3 obstacles/spot you may need a spotter for a low clearance rig.
JohnGalt
JohnGalt
@da_jokker it’s an easy day trip especially starting 8:30 in Loomis.

I was looking up this trail and sounds like there is an easy way up and on the opposite side, it's a bit more challenging for stock vehicles (non-35s). It also sounds like one of those ways (not sure which) may be closed at this time.

What was the plan? And are the road(s) actually open?
JohnGalt
JohnGalt
@da_jokker whe. I went up a couple weeks back. The easy way was closed. The trail up from Fordyce staging area was open. The very top
was blocked by a little snow, but that’s gotta be gone now

Road is open, plan on travel east on the road per my old 4 wheel drive book. Seems to have bypasses for more technical sections. I plan on this trip to be slow and stack rocks when needed. I figured 2-3 hours to do the trail with others if we have to spot low rigs 1-2 times.

This is an offer for free pin stripping and some wheel rash. Might hit a skid here and there if you go to fast.

I've heard that Signal peak is a pretty aggressive trail... my Bison has front/rear lockers, skidplates etc.. but only 32" tires, so I'm not willing to try it...
da_jokker
I really want to do this, but I have reason to believe I may still get my Bronco this year (#6 in line), so I need to keep my "trade in" looking as clean as possible. So not sure.
da_jokker
@da_jokker I watched that video.. doesn't really look that bad, and it sounded like there was an alternative route for that harder rock garden. I may tag along if you don't mind a jeep ;p

I'm still in, coming home tomorrow after two months out of the country. Ready to thrash.

100% a go, only things that might change is if we add another stop on the way to pick up a few more people.

Looking forward to going wheeling.

I think we should meet at a gas station as close to the trail head as possible :) i know there is a shell up near emmigrant pass that has a large dirt lot just across from it, bit I don't know how close that is to the trail head.
da_jokker
Anyone coming with a winch JIC?Mine isn't installed on my wrangler right now.
NORCALGXP
NORCALGXP
Yes I have a winch installed. The Shell station works for me. Let's set a time.
da_jokker
@NORCALGXP looks like times and meeting locations are set up in OP. That works for me as well..i have to drive by both so we'll see which on I end up with.
da_jokker
GMRS channel 16?

Let me check my boefang radio as I really only use it for spying.
I can add the Shell station you want the one at Nyack Snow Park or Cisco Rd?
da_jokker
@Snacktime nah I'm good with your existing spots. Coming from Roseville so They are all on the way. I have a set of boefang Family radios and found out that gmrs 18, privacy 19 matches one of its channels.

@Snacktime I will make it easy and meet up at the Raley in Loomis.

Just to confirm, we are still on for this Saturday? Is this Sac Group going to be the communication point until we actually meet up? (Ex..running late, be there in 10). Any Non-Broncos going besides me?

@da_jokker I can confirm I will be going. I'm going to stick to the times as best as possible. Will check in here before leaving the first stop.
da_jokker
Oh..not sure if this is the Bible, but fs.usda.gov makes it sound like the trail is fully open now.

Unfortunately, I just got called out of town and will not be able to make it on Saturday. Sorry that I wont be there. I will definitely be trying this trail soon as it is reasonably close to me. I look forward to seeing trail reports and photos from you all!

@Snacktime That'd be awesome. Still fingers crossed I'll have my rig sometime next month, so hopefully I can make the next one.

If you guys are still planning a trip Saturday, I would love to come along. Explored all around Single peak area but have never done the drive up.
da_jokker
@SS Bronco yup, we are still on. Sounds like 3 confirmed so far. I haven't done the trail either. YouTube has some good videos of people doing the trail to give you a sense.

Looks good, should be a fun drive. It will be nice to get out of the valley heat.
