Planning on heading up to the Tahoe / Truckee area tomorrow for a few nights of camping. Does anyone have any recommendations for dispersed camping spots or trail recommendations? I am looking to start around the stampede reservoir area, but may migrate north / west towards the Plumas NF area.

Tag alongs welcome if anyone's interested.

Weather looks to drop temps into the low 20's possible teens with Snow in the forecast. Sounds like a blast wish I could go.

We went camping 2 weeks ago after a storm and it was a bit cold but 22 wasn’t that bad.

The trip was kind of a bust. I drove up Thursday, when I started climbing the hills on the 80, I got a check engine light. When I would get on the gas going up the hills in the higher RPM range, my engine would misfire badly. Since it was later in the day, I decided to stop at an area that I was familiar with. I pulled off the 80 at the trailhead for Fordyce and Signal Peak (39.33123, -120.57402), and I drove about an hour up Signal peak in the evening. With all the snow run off, it was like driving up a river, super rocky and wet. I drove up as far as I could before the snow blocked the trail. I found a good spot to camp (39.33076, -120.55981), scared off a little brown bear when I pulled into camp. Heading up the trail was a cakewalk, but there are some obstacles that get exponentially more difficult on the way down. I got hung up between two boulders that I winched over and there were a few 3 wheel moments. Friday in the AM, I packed up an headed home because the check engine light was making me nervous. I’ve got an appointment at Capitol Ford tomorrow in the AM, we’ll see what they find. Added a few pics on the initial post.

@RandallLG Sounds like a nice run, and hope that you had that check engine light issue resolved.

Interested in what your winch setup looks like - do you have the Modular Bumper to start? That's what I have currently, but not sure what winch platform to buy - aiming for a Warn Zeon 8K.

@WheelMe The dealer got it fixed up under the warranty, they said it was a bad ignition coil.

It’s a badlands so I think it came with a HD modular bumper stock… I replaced it with a Fab Four stubby with a Warn Zeon 10k. I really like the fit of the bumper, but I had to remove the front sensors.

@RandallLG I see. My Badlands comes with the Modular bumper and LUX package, with sensors which I'd like to retain - I'm looking for a bumper/winch solution which keeps those sensors/camera working. I believe that Hefty Fabworks has something in the works, but looking for other options as well.
