So, I'm all set up for FORScan... kind of. I don't have a Windows laptop/tablet and haven't in ages. I'm trying not to buy a new device simply for this process.

Does anyone have a Windows laptop/tablet they'd be willing to part with? Something sitting around, collecting dust, that serves them no purpose that I can buy from them?

If you have a Mac laptop, you can run Parallels or VMware and use it through a Windows virtual machine. That's what I did, and I believe you can do that for free if I'm not mistaken.

I've been running a trial of CrossOver and it wants to charge me $50 flat.
Parallels is worse at $80/year.

VMware I'm less familiar with. I know the place I work at uses it, but I don't know about it on an individual basis. I thought it was $120 or so.

And all of these emulations seem like an expensive stop-gap for a single program need that might be done once, ever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks like I've got some learning to do. Is getting a virtual Windows machine difficult to do/find?

If you have an Intel Mac, you can use bootcamp. You will need a copy of Windows, but you must know someone who has a copy they aren't using any more.

It's fairly easy, you just download a Windows ISO file and then VM Ware will walk you through the steps. Just select that file and use default/recommended settings. And you don't need to activate windows either so no need for a product key.

@fronc Woah. First, thank you for finding the ISO for me. So far, this is working infinitely better than what I'm used to. I guess I haven't been keeping up on cross-platform stuff recently enough to know how seamless programs have made this.

Assume you have an Apple product? If so, VMware fusion or Parallels will work well if you don’t have the new Apple silicon. I have been using VMware for over a decade.

or dual boot.

@BLMike dual boot is how I used to to things, but I don't want to partition my drive.

Learning more about VMware as we speak. This is nuts. Back in my day, Wine was the only emulation way and it was tolerable, at best.

@Boston182 I was early adopter in VMware Fusion. I remember I started the install and had to leave. When I came back there was a windows sign on screen on my Mac. Never looked back. I don't upgrade Fusion every cycle. I feel it works very well and I have to tie into systems that require windows. Pretty painless. Not perfect but has worked well for me. I honestly don't know what I am going to do now that Apple is using it's own chips. Next hardware cycle will probably go windows only machine. Unless Windows ARM gets better.

I have one that I was about to get rid of, yours if you want it.
