When you work in the auto manufacturing business long enough, you have some wtf moments every once in a while. At the Weba$to Bronco factory you have wtf moments every day, every shift.

My son is in supply chain management, I keep telling him to go work in a supplier plant, so he understands the ground level. I told him about the local top supplier, he looked into it and was like.......no thanks.....

How about under 20 clam shells made in a 24hr period leading into job1 next Monday

Breaking news all MY2021 2-door Broncos will now come with free Bestop convertible tops 🤣
Nite93
Honestly, I think that is why Ford has been showing off Broncos with the Bestop
Nite93
After seeing a mod top sample.. I'm pissed I decided to switch to the mic top for my 2dr. The mod top is so better built.

That's disappointing and I assume why Ford is offering the headliner. Fit and finish sub par on the MIC?
Nite93
In terms of the clamshell. It is VERY light without glass in terms of weight. I understand it will be rigid once the glass is installed. Which is done at map. Along with the headliner.

MAP is doing all the heavy lifting :), from what I understand, it is a solid plant.

Sure am glad the Bronco isnt being built at Torrence Avenue Assembly, the Chicago Explorer plant. MAP workers are head and shoulders better!

Only "once in a while?" Man, I just must have been working for the wrong suppliers/ OEs/ etc. (or maybe I'm a f***-up...)

That said, sounds like things are chaotic over there. Hoping things come together sooner than later - not just for our Broncos, but for your sanity...

Under 20 clamshells between both shifts yesterday.
Nite93
Also, heard a rumor of map being idled for 2 weeks in June yesterday. Trying to confirm this.
Nite93
Yes. The soft tops are being built at a different Webasto building in Plymouth.

Have they figured out how to get 21 in a day yet?
Nite93
Sure. If you consider Ford wants anything Webasto can give them at this point. Good or bad. They will have broncos with bad tops in their process yards until good ones can be made to replace the bad tops.
Nite93
Let's just say Ford put forth an impossible task this past Friday for Webasto. Ford wanted 300 tops good or bad by Monday. Webasto failed miserably.

Houston, we have a problem 🤡

It’s probably good this is a MI only discussion. The greater forum would probably melt down and we might actually loose a member or two to the news.
Nite93
Correct

Thanks for the update, hopefully they turn this thing around sooner than later
Nite93
Over 100 5dr clamshells built today between both shifts at Webasto. That's the best day so far.
Nite93
Things are progressing fast at Webasto. Getting 150+ clamshells day the past few days. Having Ford within the building is putting a fire to Webasto's ass. Processes(especially, quality processes) are evolving every day which gets really confusing. Monday will be interesting with new start times for both shifts. Worker turnover will be a big concern with the new start times

Thanks for the update, appreciate your insight. Sounds like you think structure and process has improved significantly since you came on? Not wanting to generalize too much but it seemed like complete chaos when you first walked in there haha
Nite93
It's still not as organized as what it needs to be. It don't help their work force turns over a lot. 2 women that work the station ahead of me from final both left this past week once work schedule changes were announced.
Nite93
Essentially, they have outgrown their brand new building too. It makes no sense that they don't have a paint shop in the building.
Nite93
We did run some 22' mod sample clamshells through yesterday. I'm actually hoping Ford pushes my build back back until the new year. The mod top is so much nicer, heavier and sturdy compared to the mic, imo.

Ya im bummed that I cannot opt out of the MIC hard top for a convertible Bestop on my 2-door FE. I’d gladly wait for the mod top.
