Who here is an ORV trail expert? I've not been to the UP as often as I'd like to admit and never been on an ORV trail *sad face.

Are there many trails open to full size vehicles? I'd love to rip around in my Bronco on some trails this summer. I tried to look on the DNR website but I apparently don't know what I'm looking for because all I found was for UTV/motorcycles. Any info is appreciated.

Trails for full size are limited. Same rule applies for basically any over 50”. Good place to start- https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79119_79148_80314---,00.html

Silver Lake, Drummond Island, St. Helens, now Holly Oaks near Detroit are all full size friendly spots. Lots of other smaller loops and systems to be found as well (look at the links and the trails are noted by symbol as to what’s allowed).

Plenty of legal trails on the west side and northern part of the state big enough for a bronco. I’ve put plenty of miles on them in my Jeep.

Yeah, didn’t mean to imply there are not trails, just differentiate between single track (MC only) 50” ORV (anything 50” or less width) and “full size (over 50”). Routes and trails differ by street licensing. All trails and routes require ORV stickers. We often see vehicles over 50” on the 50” trails when we ride our motorcycles. We also rarely see DNR, except when people are running closed or the wrong trails. They do check stickers regularly too.

One misnomer about the stickers - if you are driving a registered, plates vehicle, they are not required outside of the state scramble areas (Silver Lake, St Helen, Bull Gap and the high clearance section of Drummond). Purchasing them helps support the trail systems and recreation areas, but are not required.
@DETT , do some research online for ORV ROUTES, there’s quite a bit of information online. I also recommend looking into these atlases, there are 2, a northern and a southern. Gives you a good starting point, then you can verify the trails on the dnr site.

@DETT no problem. I’ve been trail riding for years, helped and ran different clubs, organized rides, poker runs, etc all while trying to keep everyone legal. Once some of us get our Broncos I would love to plan some rides for all of us. Got plenty stored from over the years. Fairly certain I can get us from Muskegon up to Mesick on mostly trails. (That’s easily a full 10+ hour run). Feel free to hit me up whenever you’re up for a run.

Yes, St Helen is my regular stomping grounds. 100s of miles in and around that area from mild logging roads to tight, twisty technical stuff. There's a state forest not far that is a blast if you have a good guide.
