It's mounted to the existing Ford Rock Rail. You would sell a TON of them overnight. I would buy 4 of them today for my 4 door Squatched Badlands. It's such an elegant solution.

Not really. It just comes down to aesthetics and your subjective taste. Lateral slots and material thickness are near identical. Anything that mounts on the smooth rail would mount on the Picatinny and vice versa.
The all purpose mount you speak of is called the AR | FART (Fits All Random Things) and it's already in development.
